"Our right to be different is, in a deep sense, the most precious right we human beings have." ~ Lillian Smith

Our Mission:
The Mid-Hudson Valley Transgender Association's (MHVTA) principal mission is to provide outreach and support for our members, their families, their friends, and to be active in the Transgender Community and the greater community of the Mid-Hudson Valley, New York. MHVTA is a non-discriminatory group which is structured to allow participation by all those who support the transgender community. We respect and support the right of free and open expression and the right to be treated as equals by society. We focus on providing an understanding peer support network for anyone who would like to be a part of it and to assist others who wish to learn more about the Transgender community, acting as a Transgender advocate to other groups and institutions in the Mid-Hudson Valley area. We welcome new people with sensitivity towards their fears and concerns that accompany revealing themselves to others.  MHVTA aims to accomplish this through regularly scheduled meetings, social events, and frequent and open communication.

MHVTA Monthly Meeting and Coming Attractions:

Mon. November 24
Transgender Day of Remembrance (DOR) — Remembering Felicity

We will have special guests this meeting. Ethan St. Pierre, a transman from Mass. who operates the TG DOR web site and does TransFM Radio, will visit as will Randy Jenson from Chicago along with a two person film crew.

1. We will hold a TG DOR service preceded by a video about the genesis of the TG DOR effort and Ethan will discuss this and other things he's involved in as a transactivist.

2. Randy visited Poughkeepsie two summers ago to film our recently deceased 102 year old CD, Felicity and came back again to continue filming (but Felicity was hospitalized) and spoke to her daughters and others. Felicity had a storied life working as a barnstorming pilot thru to a pilot with major commercial carriers... and oh, she was a CD who got out and about. We will have a short memorial service for Felicity. Randy and his crew will show some of his biography and also plans to film the MHVTA meeting to help finish out the videobiography. (Note: only those who permit their pictures to be taken)

Monday, December 15 — Christmas Party and Secret Santa PLUS a Potluck supper

We encourage everyone to get all dressed up to attend this party as it's a lot of fun. We have a potluck supper (everyone brings a dish or something to share). We have a Secret Santa gift swap which is a lot of fun. In addition, Felicity's daughter is planning to visit and we will reprise the memorial to Felicity (Dec. 15 is Felicity's actual birthdate).

Notice PS: Bring goodies and soda to the regular meetings... anything happening in the area? Email any questions to: DD at mhvtaweb@yahoo.com
