About Us

"Our right to be different is, in a deep sense, the most precious right we human beings have." ~ Lillian Smith

..... "The Mid-Hudson Valley Transgender Association's (MHVTA) principal mission is to provide outreach and support for our members, their families, their friends, and to be active in the Transgender Community and the greater community of the Mid-Hudson Valley, New York. MHVTA is a non-discriminatory group which is structured to allow participation by all those who support the transgender community. We respect and support the right of free and open expression and the right to be treated as equals by society. We focus on providing an understanding peer support network for anyone who would like to be a part of it and to assist others who wish to learn more about the Transgender community, acting as a Transgender advocate to other groups and institutions in the Mid-Hudson Valley area. We welcome new people with sensitivity towards their fears and concerns that accompany revealing themselves to others.  MHVTA aims to accomplish this through: Regularly scheduled meetings, social events, and frequent and open communication."

MHVTA Monthly Meeting:

May 19, 2008: The May MHVTA meeting will feature a presentation on feminine deportment by Lady Ellen of Le Femme Finishing School. I have been to workshops presented by Lady Ellen, and they were helpful and fun. You can go to http://www.lefemmefinishingschool.com/ for more info. The meeting date is May 19 due to Memorial Day falling on our normal meeting day.

New News: Summer 2008 Meetings:
For the months of June, July, and August, we are relocating the meetings to The Hudson Valley LGBTQ Center in Kingston. We are doing this for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that the facility is air conditioned. The meetings will be on the usual day and time. You can go to http://www.lgbtqcenter.org/ for more info. In June, we will hear about GENDA legislation from Empire State Pride and discuss photography tips. In July we will be visited by Moon Hawk Stone. He is a transman who is a TG counselor, and will talk about related issues. August will be movie night; movie yet to be determined.

Notice PS: Bring goodies and soda to the regular meetings.. anything happening in the area? Email any questions to : DD at mhvtaweb@yahoo.com
