Our Halloween Meeting Report

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but the judgment there is something more important than fear."
Ambrose Redmoon

It is this judgment that gets us to the Woods each month. It is this judgment that leads us as individuals and guides us as a group. Thanks to those who came out to celebrate pride at Outfest this past month. Everyone can make a difference. The October GPC meeting/Halloween party was a spooky-boo fun time. Eighty seven attendees, seven newcomers, a lot of old faces mixed with new, always good to be seen. Commander Kaelin, our Romulin defector chapter leader, who boldly goes where no one has gone before, boasted she joined Starfleet just for the uniform. And those accessories? General issue? The costumes ranged from Savannah lovely to flappers and corsets, gothic ghouls, doctors, nurses, wicked ol' witches: Rebecca's Velma from Scooby Doo with a few French maids thrown in and a few bunnies could be seen hopping around. Is it me, or was leather out this year? The winning costumes picked by the newcomers Laura, Beverly and Joan, were Jacqueline as Miss Scarlet, Tina as (well) Tina! Nurse Carrie and Mistress Amy tied for third.

Dr. Eugene Shrang gave a very educational presentation on SRS. He also gave myself and a few others private consultations during the meeting. Truely a great man. Everyone's favorite doctor, local physician Mark Watkins stopped by to pay us a visit. It was a very busy night and a powerful gathering. Dr. Watkins has been asked to give a talk on hormones shortly after the new year. I will keep you posted.

My two good friends, Bobbi Burnette and Sarah Goring from Philadelphia Transsexual support (PTSS). showed up with their brand of outreach. PTSS is the oldest TS support group in Philadelphia and is a worthwhile trip to 1201 Locust the first and third Saturday for anyone TS or considering transition. The group meets from 4 to 6 p.m., is peer facilitated and donation free. Sarah's many years of experience with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation goes a long way. You can find literature on The Washington West Project, T-HAC, and all they have to offer the transgender community as well as the latest copy of PGN, papers of general interest and newsletters of various organizations at our information table adjacent to the library at all GPC Renaissance meetings.

Don't Forget Our Holiday Party!

Fill out your donation form at November's meeting! A forty five dollar donation guarantees you a good time with your favorite GAL friends. Spouses and significant others are welcome. An appetizer hour, a lovely buffet with something for everyone; D.J.'s, dining, dancing don't miss this glam event. This year's Holiday Party promises to be the best in years. It will be held at the Saturday Club , 117 W. Wayne Ave., Wayne, Pa. The event starts at 7 p.m. on the third Saturday in December (the 21st), and it will be extremely private: just the usual Ren. staff, Ren. friends and you. Click here for more info. The GPC Renaissance Holiday Party will hold significance in other people's lives as well. Katie Wannabe, who works so hard for the community has arranged for the party to be a Marine Corps Toy For Tots participant. Katie asks that we we bring an unwrapped toy to be donated. Toys for the kids may be brought to our November meeting or to the Saturday club the night the party. A great Holiday Party, private location, D.J.'s, dining, dancing, good friends and charitable contributions to a great cause. Don't miss it! The Woods will be open for anyone who needs a private space to change. See you at the Saturday Club on the third Saturday in December.

Vendor's Night is Coming

In the past we have set aside the month of November for Vendor's Night and this year is no different. Rita Fleming from Bare Elegance will be back, along with Lady Remington Jewelry, Vicki Easterling from Expressive Hair, and Shear Foreplay will be setting up tables with all sorts of fun stuff. Kae wants us all to know that this year we are welcome to bring items to sell or trade: Clothing, wigs, jewelry, unused make up, etcetera. Bring your purses ladies this sounds like fun in November!

Each month Kae, Viv and I, along with help from Michelle Moore, try to put on the best possible program. The details and the planning are endless. Anyone who wishes to join in is welcome. See Kae! A small reminder from the GPC maid service: Please, when you are finished with a paper plate, a cup or uneaten food, there are trash receptacles conveniently located in every area. Please use them! The ones marked plastic and glass are not for garbage. This would make the end of the night run smooth for a few of us.

After the meeting Gator's was mobbed. By far the largest crowd in a while. It is wonderful seeing everyone have such a good time. The staff at Gator's goes out of their way to make us feel welcome. Please express this in your gratuities. Make sure all checks are covered before you leave for the night. I don't know if it was the Halloween season or what, but there was a slacker in the crowd. Viv was quite the diplomat and everything has been straightened out.

The traffic patterns around our meeting site have changed so much I couldn't begin to explain them to you. That is why U.S. 202.com is a valuable resource when attending a GPC Renaissance meeting, especially for those of you who don't come out that often.

Tuesday, November 5 is election day, don't forget to vote~

A September Meeting To Remember

Ah! The lighter side of night. Even I could be seen trying on a pair of seven inch patent leather stillettos. Forty bucks, Wow! (It was great seeing you again Rita.) The September GPC, although small in attendance; fifty four altogether, several newcomers, charmed us all. Not all made it to the meeting. Wonder why? With Katie's fashion show and Southern Comfort, we were all out doin' stuff. This is good. The most frequently asked question; "are those hot dogs cooked?" Like I would be seen eating a piece of cold meat or something? Anyhoo! Rita Fleming and her entourage, which included our own Cyndi Lyndsey, who were glamourous as well as enchanting, strutted their stuff and Rita's wares through our corridors and conference room. Great job girls. I hope to see you again, real soon. All have been invited back for our Halloween party.

Halloween is approaching. Make your plans to attend Renaissance in October. Come in costume! There will be no formal newcomers meeting. Still welcome, all newcomers will judge the best of the best costumes.

A good way to make friends fast. Dr. Eugene Shrang will be speaking on SRS and other cosmetic procedures. This being my first anniversary at Renaissance, I am toying with the idea of appearing as Rosylyne Thrust, thrash metal diva or Howlin' Wind, blues stylist. The latter, these days, seems more appropriate. Ha, ha, ha!

Katie Wannabe is looking for fifteen people to help the producers of the GLBT event in Philly, Outfest; Sunday, October 13. If you volunteer you won't just help Outfest, Renaissance will benefit with a three hundred dollar donation from Outfest. Volunteers are needed to help set up, give directions, work booths, be available as guides and such. Just six hours of your time ( in either persona ) will get you a free lunch, an opportunity to make new friends, a chance to get out and do your good deed for the day. These GLBT Pride events, from first hand experience, are quite inspiring. Please contact Katie at her website, katiewannabe.com before October 7 please.

Kaelin, our chapter leader, the rarest of rare birds, who always does a fine job keeping us together on the third Saturday, will bring her pixie magic to the Renaissance/TCN table. It will be located near the N/W corner of 12th and Locust. Stop by and stay awhile. Have I mentioned these events are quit inspiring? The event: Outfest. The date: Sunday, October 13th. Just point yourself in the direction of 12th and Locust, you'll find us.

Girls, I can't stress enough how important events like Outfest are to us as a community. Some would have you thinking, "why go? The LGB community just tolerate us. They don't understand us." I remind you we are the "T" at the end of the anacronym LGBT. How can you expect us to be more than tolerated when very few of us show up at these festivals. WE must be seen! WE must get involved! A great place to start is a pride event. Renaissance National will benefit. The chapter will benefit. You will feel really good about yourself. See you there!

The Holiday Party is approaching. There are still seats left. Make your $45.00 donation to reserve yourself a wonderful evening with good friends, D.J.'s, dining and dancing. Spouses and S/O's are welcome. The party will be held at the Saturday Club in Wayne. You are urged to bring an unwrapped toy for our Marine Corps Toy For Tots contribution. click here for more information on this not to be missed glamor event.

As the year winds down, we all look forward to Vendor Night. Our last formal meeting at the Woods for the year has long been established as this night. This year , although chock full of things to do, with tables to spend your money and show off your new purses, Kae reminds us that there will be more space available so everyone is welcome to bring a few items to market. Clothing , jewelry, unused make up, bring your wares to sell or trade. This should be fun in November.

Although September's meeting seemed quiet, There was a lot of outreach going on. I would not be doing my job if I didn't stress spouses and S/O's are routinely welcome to Renaissance events. The donation policy is waived for all spouses and S/O's. Dr. Michele Angello is on hand at most gatherings for a five minute, private consultation.

With the help of Diane and our usual maid service: Kae, myself, Cyndi and Donna,we were all able to arrive at Gator's just after midnight. As always Gator's was fun. There seems to be a group of us that never wants to leave. We like to continue the evening till the early hours of daylight. Powerful events are always met with such difficulty, GOIN' HOME.

U.S.202.com, a valuable asset to anyone attending a Renaissance meeting, lived up to expectations this month with the annoucement of the Swedesford Rd. north bound exit of 202 being closed. Stay informed.

A MESSAGE FROM CHAPTER OUTREACH

Renaissance is not just a party every month, athough we do a fine job of this. We exist before the doors open and long after they close each month at the Woods. The full name is The Renaissance Transgender Association, Inc., publishers of TCN ( Transgender Community News ) and we are a not for profit organization, living solely on donations, grants, subscriptions, and gifts. We serve as the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of Renaissance and are the flagship chapterof the organization.

Our mission statement is proudly displayed at the forefront of our website, ren.org. A place were the edge is greeted by sanity. "Renaissance is a non profit corporation with a two fold purpose 1) to serve the educational and supportive needs of all persons ( either male or female ) whose social role differs in any degree from that role considered appropriate for an individual of his or hers genetic sex, and 2) to undertake educational activities to assist the general public and counseling professionals in comprehending such behavior." ( article 3, Renaissance National bylaws )

This is being written with the realization that we are a group of individuals with varied interests whose needs differ. There are no set of rules regarding this. The reason socialization and education are extremely important. Hence our being.

There are many levels of self expression. Some of us live vicariously through websites, knowing they are welcome with good thoughts of one day entering our doors. For others it's all they can do to get to a Renaissance meeting. For the nervous each trip feels like the first time out. We are here to greet them nonetheless. There are those of us who are permanant fixtures. Walking through our halls we come together as this big mix called Transgendered, sharing a common bond.

Just a friendly reminder, peel some one off a wall. Smile and converse with new faces and old. Give back what you have recieved. Any suggestions? Please share! Most important, volunteer! An organization such as ours, survives like this to continue helping those who need us.

AUGUST ACTION

When I die and heaven doesn't want me, send me to Renaissance; And to Renaissance we came; eighty plus attendees, seven newcomers.

Hello ladies! The August GPC meeting took place under a mid August sky. A cacophony of crickets amid chattering cicadae and sweet perfume. Sweltering heat and humidity, YUK! Just hearing the breath of September sounds cool.

Kae, our chapter leader, gave me a quick lesson in hot wiring the AC. Kaelin works for us on many levels. The only thing missing was Buster Poindexter singing Hot, Hot, Hot.

Talk of the town, Katie Wannabe and her entourage; Tina, Mark ( a cutie ), Tiffany, Katie's daughter, Stephanie and our expecting mother's ( Ronnie from Washington Crossing ) granddaughter, Patty, did a fine job keeping the momentum of a baby shower alive. Kate supplied us with munchies, finger sandwiches, cake and cute little frills. In return she received $426.00 in donations and a carload of presents, which she immediately turned over to A WomanÍs Place, a shelter for abused women and infants. The gifts, I am told, were well received.

This program was very powerful, not only in attendance, but as a precursor to our TOYS FOR TOTS contribution at our Holiday Party. To be held at The Saturday Club, Just up the road in Wayne, on the third Saturday in December. Members who make a forty five dollar donation will receive an invitation. You must also bring a new, unwrapped toy. Simple little programs like this, let the world know the transgender community is vital, cares and will step up for a good cause. Katie will be hosting a fall fashion show on September 21st. Check fliers for details.

Our T/S chatroom has found a facilitator. Rae did a great job keeping everyone focused and the conversations interesting.

Announcements were minimal. Barbara and Diane are still looking for programs and volunteers for the I.F.G.E convention coming to Philadelphia in the spring. My good friend , Bobbi Burnett from Philadelphia Transsexual support (P.T.S.S.), spoke briefly about the Washington West Project and all it has to offer transgendered individuals, their families and S/O's. Thanks Bobbi for your support and outreach.

The announcement of Barbara Foster stepping down from her phone outreach responsibilities due to health concerns has created quite a stir. I assure you Barbara is taking good care of herself and will continue outreach at all Renaissance meetings. A very selfless objective, well respected throughout the community. We are currently looking for anyone who feels as though they have something to offer in phone outreach. See me!

The evening flew. Before I knew it I was sipping Cosmopolitans with Angela at Gator's. A great crowd gathered. Drinking , music, pool. What else on a hot summer's eve with your fave gal friends.

U.S.202 has been a valuable asset in attending our meetings at The Woods. Even though the last few months, arriving has been less a hassle, it is always smart to keep informed.

October's Halloween Party will also feature Dr. Eugene Shrang, speaking on SRS and other cosmetic procedures.

Kae wants us all to know that our help and participation does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated. We will be back to our usual buffet in September. Thanks to everyone for making the summer of 2002 a Renaissance summer.

September's program will be a lingerie party ( keep it clean ) Rita Fleming from BARE ELEGANCE LINGERIE will be hosting a table for those interested.

Till the next',

BE SAFE, BE PROUD, BE SEEN.

A Few Words From The Chapter Leader

Two of the more difficult challenges I've found in being the Leader at GPC are gathering everyone for announcements at nine, and dealing with all the varied personality types with their own challenges going on, who assist to make the GPC meetings happen as well as they do. The latter issue is mine to deal with. The former you all can help me out with, by wearing teeny women's wristwatches you can hardly read, and at 9:00, wherever you happen to be, tell people you're with and mosey gracefully to the program room. Two former chapter leaders were okay with yellin' it like a man, but I just can't seem to do it that way. It's our own version of KYW newstime, and while some announcements are ongoing, others political, informative, or fun, there may be things you need or want to know about. If our ship is headed for a huge iceberg, don't say I never tried to tell you.

Thank you all who assist in making the meetings as dynamic as they have been lately. I told ya before I can't (and won't) do it all by myself. In-as-much-as your car couldn't run without all the individual parts working together. Your efforts are not unnoticed, although sometimes I don't get the moment to say hello and thanks to you in person.

Don't forget that the folks who are most grateful are the ones with no other places to get out, who rely on the monthly meetings to keep from losing their marbles. I used to be there too.

Kaelin

JULY WAS HOT!

Hello ladies; and gentlemen! The July GPC cookout and meeting was by far the largest July GPC event in years. There were ninety plus attendees with sixteen newcomers. There was no disagreeing with Viv about that. I would like to thank James for bringing some of his pals. It is always good to see the guys. There were more S/O's than usual; a powerful gathering.

A Renaissance meeting of this magnitude requires a lot of help. Kaelin, our chapter leader and dear friend, who tirelessly puts it all together, made it a point to tell me to thank the people who helped out. Your efforts are not in vain, also thanks to everyone for attending.

The lovely Rebbeca greeted and Cyndi was our "barbiecutie" for the evening. Rachel stood watch over the bookstore. Great job girls!  Next months flavor? Something with a Mexican twist. Yes, Angela, we will have straws!

A little clarification is needed. Last month I informed everyone of Michele Angello's  and Barbara Foster's effort with a T/S support group held in the library from 6 to 8 pm on the third Saturday before the Ren. meeting; this is solely the enterprise of Dr. Angello and has nothing to do with the actual Renaissance meeting. All had been welcomed at the last gathering, but in the future please contact  Michele for group info. (Appointment only. ) I apologize for any inconvenience.

This brings me to the newcomer meeting. Ahhhh, the newcomers! This has taken on a life of its own. I understand people were getting frustrated waiting for us to conclude. We delayed the 50/50 forty five minutes. This particular meeting, by far, has topped any outreach responsibilities I have taken on to date. I would like to thank Pat from Tri Ess, Trish, Roberta and Donna for helping out. Remember anyone is welcome to a newcomers meeting. Stop in and feel the magic.

I understand as you are reading what I am writing, there are pictures posted. Thanks Emily for making memories last a lifetime. There are some general announcements that require your participation. The Holiday Party will be held at a place calledThe Saturday Club. It's located just up the road in Wayne. Sarah thomas will be the caterer. One hundred seats are available and to attend a $45.00 donation is required. Spouses and S/O's are welcome. Order your Tickets now, guarantee yourself a seat early. This promises to be the best Holiday party in years. Bring a new unwrapped tpoy for The Marine Corps Toys For Tots program. For more info email. See you there!

Barbara Foster and Diane Boykin have handed out a flyer educating us over the confusion about the IFGE convention. They are still looking for volunteers and input. If you have not already responded, please do.You can pick up a flyer at the next meet or contact Diane and/ or Barbara.

On demand, we have picked up a facilitator for the regular T/S chat room. The surprise hostess will make her debut in August.

I am real happy with the response to our new information table, offering PGN, newsletters from other organ

izations, papers of general interest and tidbits on happenings around the Delaware Valley. This certainly does compliment our bookstore and library.

An electrologist, was our program for the evening. Although I was unable to attend, I understand she was very informative and did a great job with visual aids. Judging from the groups response, one of the better guests who spoke this year.

By the time Kae, Joyce and I left the woods it was 11:35. As we arrived at Gator's it looked as though the crowd had thinned out a bit. None the less, Gator's was still a good time. Judging by the number of attendees, everyone has taken the time to visit U.S.202.  There were no complaints of traffic pattern changes this month. Still, though, you should always stay informed.

August GPC will host Katie Wannabe and a special program she has put together to benefit homeless infants. A BABY SHOWER! This should be a great time. She asks that gifts be practical: infant formula, disposable diapers, baby food, rattles, bibs, pacifiers, etcetera. Who knows you might be picked to be the expecting mother. Let's come out in record numbers again to support this good cause.

September? A lingerie party? WOW! More on that next month.

Until then ladies, BE SAFE, BE PROUD, BE SEEN.

JUNE MADE US SWOON

Hello, Ladies! Summer already, soon the aisles of your fav shops will be livened with fall fashion, the thought of cooler weather and less make up tragedy. Summer and powder, EEEECH!

The June GPC meeting was lower in attendance than normal. Viv and I agreed the actual number of attendees to be fifty two. Warmer weather and family obligations, I am sure, had a role in that. We had fun just the same. There were two newcomers. James, our National Vice Chair paid us a visit.  Our ever so humble Chapter Leader, Kaelin, supplied us with two crock pots and wieners galore. Wiener Night? Kae, what a novel idea. She always creates things that are ever so special. Next month we're talkin' barbecue. Cyndi has volunteered to fire up the briquettes.

If you  were wondering why the library was closed till 8pm, Dr. Michelle Angello with the help of Barbara Foster, has started a TS support group. This group meets 6 to 8pm on the third Saturday before the Renaissance meeting. See Barbara or Michele for more details. Also Michele is still looking for info on TG friendly doctors, therapists, voice trainers, electrolygists etc.

Caryl Tipton, speech therapist, was our guest speaker. She and her calm demeanor held the groups attention. She also gave brief one on one exercises. She was very informative. Thanks Caryl, I seem to be TAWKIN better  these days.

Need I say more, after a night of surprises and major announcements, Gator's seemed to be the place. As always the staff was charming and attentive. Music, pool, drinks what else could you want when out with your favorite group of gal friends.

It was called to my attention that people were getting lost once they got off 202. It is so important to keep up with the road work, especially now that summer construction is in full swing. Check US202.com.

It is official, Renaissance will not be hosting the IFGE convention in the spring. However, local chapters and individuals are urged to participate; see Barbara Foster or Dianne Boykin ( Delaware Chapter ). Currently they are looking for volunteers to head committees, work and run programs. Let's make this an enjoyable experience for our sisters and brothers when they gather in Philadelphia at the Airport  Hilton, March 19 - 22, 2003. Volunteering, as Kaelin cleverly puts it, "fillin' in the pieces of the puzzle." If you read her GPC state of the union, some GPC positions still need to be filled.

I would like to thank everyone for taking time and filling out the questionnaire I passed around. The response was overwhelming. It is unanimous, a need for a second GPC meet during the course of the month has been voiced. The meeting night, according to your responses, will be on a Thursday. Time and location are still up in the air. The Chapter is considering having the second meeting in Upper Darby, accessible to public transportation. The idea of outings also received promising results. I will try to make this a very pleasurable experience for all. Anyone wishing to help assemble this group in its formative stage can call the Renaissance office and leave a message for Roz. I am pushing for a September start. Let's put it together girls. (Email GPC.)

In July GPC will host an electrolygist, speaking on the never ending saga of hair removal. A little reminder for August, Katie Wannabe will be sponsoring a mock baby shower. This sounds like a real fun time, so you don't want to miss out. Bring a gift, who knows, you might be the expecting mother. More details to follow.

Until then, ladies.

BE SAFE, BE PROUD,  BE SEEN

MAY IS OK!

Hello Ladies! Before reporting on the May GPC meeting I have to say I'm overwhelmed with the friendship and personal acquaintances I've made there. One name certainly comes to mind, Angela Gardner. She was a founding member of Renaissance and is the National Executive Director now. Befitting the occasion of our 15th anniversary, I would like to thank you personally Angela for all your efforts. I feel it would be safe to speak for all my sisters when I say Renaissance thanks you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RENAISSANCE!

I was told by Viv there were 88 attendees. I counted 52 before the newcomer meeting, then the sun set and I all the vampires came out. Daylight and crossdressing, go figure! Of course Kaelin did a selfless job organizing our thoughts and events for the evening. There are never enough good things to say about Kae, We love you.

The newcomer meeting was an interesting group. There were a sweet couple from Scranton and several well coordinated girls. (I did not forget about you "Z".) We had eight newcomers altogether.

Bobbi Burnett of Philadelphia Transsexual Support joined us. You are always welcome Bobbi! our program for the evening was local TG attorney Kristine Holt. After hearing Kristine Holt speak I believe the old adage that anyone who represents themselves in a court of law has a fool for a client. Way to go Kristine.

After the meeting we adjourned to our local watering hole, Gator's. Big screen TV, baseball, pool and drinks. What more could you want after a TG support group meeting?

The ride home north on 202 proved valuable as I noticed a Warner Rd. exit very much alive and accessible, poised to take you to the woods. It's called the Devon Park Drive exit but it replaces the now gone Warner Road exit. Check US202.com for the latest construction changes. Remember that construction and be sure to start out early enough.

The William Way Center will be presenting The Gender Bender Ball on June 8th. There's a nominal $5. 00 cover, cash bar and food. I understand last year the Ren Girls were the best dressed. Let's keep that distinction this year.

Sunday June 9th visit the Renaissance table and say Hi to Kae and I during Philly Pride. The event takes place the Festival Pier on Delaware Avenue in Philly. Get your picture taken with Kae, the most photographed girl at Pride Fest.

Our June program at GPC will be Caryl  Tipton, speech therapist. Caryl will attempt to teach us all to " tawk real good."

APRIL FLOWERS

The April GPC meeting went off without a hitch and a few surprises. Brenda, of Liz and Brenda fame, changed back to her natural hair color... lookin' good! Attendance was average. Eighty two altogether with six newcomers. Trish, a good friend from the William Way Center and three wives participated. Diane Dale and JoAnn Roberts from The Transgender Fund graced us with their prescence. Kaelin, our chapter leader and her unusual clever charms kept the evening very special. Great job Kae! The flowers were lovely.

Cyndi manned the door and made sure everyone was greeted with a smile. Barbara Foster was seen ducking in and out of office space doing her usual selfless outreach, and Viv? Still hard at work? OY!

The highlight of the evening, of course, was Dr. Michele Angello's talk on TG Sexual Fantasies. Audience participation was alive and forthcoming. Is it me, or was it getting hot in there? Thanks Michele, you are truely a friend to the community.

A personal highpoint was doing outreach and greeting two newcomers, Emily and Missy, High School students. For me it is very special to see youth discover themselves. Renaissance will be helping Emily with a support group near the university she will be attending in the fall. Good Luck sweetheart, you will do fine.

The gathering after the gathering, Gator's of course, seemed to have attracted a larger crowd than normal, drinks, pool, dancing, no one appeared bored. The DJ's mix is getting better.

Now that Spring is here, driving is less of a hazard and more of a hassle. Remember to stay familiar with the traffic pattern changes on US 202.

Next month GPC will be hosting Kristine Holt, speaking on TG'S and the Law, an always important topic. If you are out and about on the second Saturday of the month in May, JoAnn Roberts will be talking at our sister chapter in Delaware. It's only 22. 5 miles south of GPC on 202. No traffic, a great group of girls, I'll be there. I am sure Jennifer and Diane would love to see you.

Until then Ladies, BE SAFE, BE PROUD, VOLUNTEER!

March Meeting Report

The facts; the meeting drew a crowd of fifty-something, I think, and we had a program — Sister Louisa DeRouren, a Catholic Nun, talked about reconciling faith and transgenderism. From what I hear, she's one of the few who is understanding and "on our side" in the Catholic community, which, from what I hear is generally not too open-minded about such matters.

I said "hello" to her literally as she was leaving after the program. That's how it is for me. I'm concerned with making the meeting "flow." I don't seem to get a chance to see the programs, or meet the newcomers, or even count heads to see how many people were at the meeting.

It's a symptom of too few people taking care of too many people. While I'm improving with regards to doing the homework necessary to keep the Chapter from running into an iceberg and goin' straight on down, I also notice I can't do it all by myself. GPC Chapter needs an official secretary to count heads and write 'em down, someone who can sit in on a program to see how it really went, and tell you about it, or someone who can count the number of new visitors, etc, etc.

Roxy used to do the meeting reports, and did a really good job of it. Mine are pale compared to those, although I mean well and can write, I know a better job can be done by someone not as involved with the inner-workings of the group as I. The result will be that you'll have a better idea of what really goes on at the meetings, better than I can provide. Although I will no longer be writing these reports, and it may be immediately or next June before you see one posted here, it does not mean GPC is not busy and flourishing, quite the opposite.

Meanwhile I'll be busy with the details of keeping the doors open for you, in a Wizard-of-Oz kinda way, so that it'll be there for others just coming out, as it was for me, five years ago. (And Renaissance is gonna be 15 years old soon, by the way.)

See ya!

April's program: Dr. Michelle Angello talks about Transgender Sex Fantasies

February Meeting Report

Greetings, all,
My first "official" meeting as the Chapter Leader went better than last month's (January) non-meeting. Aside from a backed-up sink and a no-program evening, I think things went pretty well. There were 50+ renewing members in attendance, and guests, plus two birthday cakes representing three of our sisters there. That's as accurate as my brain permits for now, but I'm trying... one thing at a time. GPC has little dysfunctions that I inherited when I became the leader, but I'm trying to deal with these things, keep the meetings happening, and understand my responsibilities as the leader all at once. It's a large group and I may not get all the details correct all the time, but I sincerely am trying.

Next month's program will be one Sister Louisa DeRouren, set up thru the assistance of Dr. Michele Angello, (who will be the April program, bring your sex fantasies to discuss).

Sister L will be discussing Reconciling Faith and Transgenderism, and should be of interest mostly to individuals who grew up in a strict Catholic surrounding and had their knuckles battered by ruler-wielding nuns... I hear she's also an interesting person, so you need not be of a particular faith to listen and pick up something positive from her talk.

Speaking of programs, my apologies there was not one in February; I made three attempts and struck out. In a week I'll be conferring with Michelle Moore to set up programs for the rest of the year. Many thanks to all who assisted with the renewals paperwork at the door, and the various setting up and tearing down of the meeting, in spite of some of you being traumatized by getting lost on the way, or dealing with backups due to construction on 76. To those who have never been to a GPC meeting; what to expect:

Folks begin to gather at the meeting site as early 7pm; we're still setting up at that time, pushing tables and chairs about and preparing the buffet, or setting up the program room for a particular program. Between 7 and 9, many people arrive. On a good night there can be 70-90 people there. Many are crossdressed male to females, some change at the site, some attend as guys and do not change at all. The others are male to female transsexuals, on all parts of the gender path; from not-sure to just-had surgery, and beyond. As Renaissance is open to all on the TG spectrum, there is also a smattering of everyone else you can imagine. We gather and socialize in many of the rooms at the meeting site. The "Woods" as the offices are referred to, are doctor's offices by day. At 9pm, general announcements are made. After that newcomers have their own moderated group for a while, and if there's a program, that usually begins at 9 as well.

There is an ongoing TS support group in one room, and lotsa written resources in the form of free info, books to read or purchase, and a bulletin board to post events and general queries. The meetin' goes to around 11pm, we tear it all down and put it away, and many then gather at a restaurant/bar called Gator's, which is 5 minutes away, where we yammer some more until they turn on the lights at 2am and make us go away.

Keep in mind that's only my version of the story. Your individual results may vary, but it'll be a real eye-opener in any case, especially if you believe you're the "only one" with a particular story or condition. If you do decide to come out, check all maps and KYW radio for any construction info, and it helps to get on the mailing list at http://www.us202.com to keep up with serious changes to the roads immediately around our meeting site.

See ya out there!
Kae

The January 2002 meeting was CANCELED due to snow threat. Dr. Angello's presentation will be rescheduled.

December Holiday Party Report

The Greater Philadelphia Chapter of Renaissance did not meet as usual at the Woods this month; we held a holiday party at Al E. Gator's, our usual after-the-meeting watering hole.

My report is brief, and tainted with my perspective, that is to say from the viewpoint of a frazzled Pixie decorator... I was responsible for making the interior of our dining room glitter as it did, gathering the glitz, and creating the centerpieces on the tables, and customizing some of the ornaments. I don't think green or hot pink reindeer happen in the real world. Thanks to those who assisted with dangling the various glitz, including my Pixie friend Terry. There were forty-some attendees at the party, each bringing their own unique form of holiday glitz to add to the event. There was salad, dinner, deserts, and lotsa good conversation. The staff was friendly as they usually are, and did not force us out when the last of us left around 2:30 or so...

Next year's holiday party may not be at Gator's; Angela Gardner wants to try something bigger, involving other TG groups, in a different space, and catered by one of our own Sisters... details as it develops. The January GPC meetin' will be held at the Woods, check your maps if you hain't been out there for a few months, construction on 202 has changed things slightly. Try http://www.US202.com or call the Ren office if you're still confused. We'll do our darndest to get you there.

Michelle Angello will be doing the January program, it'll be about sex. No specific details other than that... no blushing allowed. Also in January come armed with purses for your chapter membership renewal.

That's all for now.
Seeya there!
Kae

(Editor's Note: The Warner Road entrance and exit to 202 are no more. Coming from 76 you get on 202 South and take the Swedesford Road Exit. You then have a choice of going to the right and back up to Warner Road where you would make a right and follow that to the first right, which takes you to County Line Road where you make a left into the meeting site, or, you make a left on Swedesford Road after you have exited 202 and take Swedesford down to Old Eagle School Road. If you make a left on Old Eagle School Road it will take you to the front entrance to the Woods office campus. However you decide to go, take a little extra time to figure things out. I won't even go into what you have to do to get back into Philadelphia. We will have an updated map in the Directions section as soon as possible.)

November 2001 Meeting Report

By Kaelin Devlin

If you'd'v asked me if I'd end up being the chapter leader of this group when I began attending meetings in early 1997 I'd'v told you that it was extremely unlikely. Even this past spring I had no idea that I would be, but I am now, and that was my own choosing.

Our last leader, Viv Shaw, had been leader for three years plus. Normally we hold elections for GPC offices in November, but since there were not more than one person nominated for the given offices, the election was a kinda moot point. Our treasurer of many years, Joanne White, remains the same. Viv has opted to take on the job of community outreach. Our meet-n-greet girl remains Ms. Congeniality, Roxy Wilson. Michelle Moore, longtime member, volunteered to assist with programs, although I'll still be doing a lot of that myself for now.

My main goal at the moment, is to keep the doors open at GPC, as they have been since 1987, to make the space available for people who need it, as I needed it in '97. At one point in my life I knew of no other options. The 3rd Saturday meant a lot to me, as it still does, but now I'm fortunate to have other places to go in the imbetween-time. Many of the people I go to these other places with, I would not have known if it had not been for GPC. Another reason I go to the meetings is to continue meeting new people. The whole thing has been undeniably healthy for me, so I wanna help it continue for others.

The November meetin' drew seventy-something people and five-ish newcomers. I was awful busy scrambling to make the meeting work in the absence of Viv and Roxy this month, so unless you wanna be the one to make an official headcount, my vague figures'll hafta do. Many thanks to Rebecca and Cyndi who helped tend the door on short notice. A lot of assistance is necessary to run a meeting of this many people. As always, my thanks to everyone who helped set-up, sit-down, run things and tear down after. Sounds messy but actually the meeting went smoothly for me... although I was kinda tense.

I do not promise to do it all myself, I couldn't possibly. Each month, people are needed for the greeting table, the newcomers' group, and the bookstore, at least, or these things won't happen. In the case of the greetins table, if it doesn't happen, we don't collect money, we don't pay rent, we don't purchase food for the buffet, the doors close, and in Viv's words, "everyone will be sad." The meetings are as rich-n-interesting as the people who make them happen, so I mean it when I say thanks.

November is traditionally "vendor nite" at GPC. We had a few... Nilah, from Nilah and Co.; She'll make your garment fit better, or honestly tell you if it can't be done. She also can do custom clothing, and custom photo albums for special events. She's an advertiser in TCN, see it for more details. Also, Lady Remington jewelry... kinda self-explanatory, lotsa shiny jewelry and friendly service, and finally, Vicki Easterling, who sells and services wigs and hair additions. More details if you need them, just ask me.

Katie Wannabe was there also, not as a vendor, but as a visitor, although she took charge of our usual 50/50 raffle and made somebody $90-ish happier.

Next month there will not be a regular meeting at the Woods offices. Doors will be open at 6:30-ish for anyone needing to change or prepare for the Holiday Party at Gators' at 8pm. Click here for more details. January will be a regular meeting, I have not set a program up yet. Come armed for GPC membership renewal, which Roxy sez is in the throes of reconstruction, sorta. Speaking of; check construction on 202 before heading out to the Woods, there were changes to the usual route for some people in early November.

September 2001 Meeting Report

Greetings, all!

I'm filling in for Roxy this month with the meeting report again as the new season of Gay Bingo has begun and our Roxy was there on the third Saturday as one of the "Bingo Verifying Divas"... it would seem by now that the Gay community has accepted Roxy's TG presence. And Roxy must be lovin' it. Demand pictures, I say.

I was worried that the horrific events on September eleventh would somehow keep folks from attending the meeting, it was not the case. I tend to worry a bit much. Fact is, myself and many others had recovered enough by Saturday to not only attend, but also end the evening feeling much better, in spite of the tragedy. Not that we were unaffected; many who came to the meeting had some story to tell from someone near enuf... we're local enough—too close for comfort. Our own Roxy drove one of the trucks with relief supplies to New York, I hear.

It was reassuring to see that my (our) community had survived with Spirits intact. In the months and possibly years ahead through whatever happens as a result of this "War on Terrorism" we are being drawn into, stay connected as a community, please. Even if fear or imposed conditions keep you from leaving home, stay in touch, stay together. The terrorists would like nothing better than to see America divided, in pain and confusion. Do not let them succeed. Get on with your life as best you can, more aware than ever now of precious is Life that can be gone in an instant.

Terry McCorkle, Renaissance National Chair, suggests that we begin healing. She led a candlelight vigil at the meeting in remembrance of the tragedy (and given the number of those that perished, there were certainly gay, lesbian, and TG brothers and sisters, some out, some not). The vigil was led with a prayer for peace from Alberta Hamm, a moment of silence, and a singing of America the Beautiful by Marybeth, Terry's significant other, a Professional Mezzo-Soprano.

Although the official head count of the attendees was around fifty-something, it seemed there were more than that who gathered outside in the cool night for that vigil. We had three newcomers, and a program from Betty Styler and Kathleen Mullen from Bryn Mawr Electrology/Aesthetics on the timeless subject of hair removal and skin care.

FYI, next month at GPC (October) will be the usual Halloween theme; costumes are not required, but highly recommended. For my MtF and FtM brethren, please try to go beyond crossdressing as "the costume". If ya gotta be a girl, why not a mermaid or Lucille Ball? If a guy, why not Elvis or Alfred Hitchcock? Best costume'l be judged by a newcomer, a prize of some sort'l be given out. Have fun with it.

Also in October, Michael Williams will be giving a talk on howta get low income legal advice. So if you have a low income, like I do, get some info on howta still get legal advice, which'l be inevitable on our complicated world at some time in your life.

November'l be an abbreviated vend-o-rama night, with Lady Remington jewelry, (I'll also have my bead bracelet tree), clothing alterations by Nilah, Jay-Ann Intimates (almost certain) (and see their ad in TCN), and Vicki Easterling Wigs, visiting from Hanover, Pa. Keep it in mind. If you need wig care, bring your wigs. If you need clothing altered, bring it. If you need a bracelet, bring your wrist. This is in November.

So, the September meetin' went by quickly as it usually does for me. So many faces, so little time. And I'm only one person. My perspective may be different from yours. If ya wanna write for this newsletter, the address in just inside the cover page.

Other GPC news; October'l also be nominations month for new officers who run the GPC chapter. Just so you're aware, pretty much everything is up for grabs, meaning the few of us who do the work to make the meetings happen are burnt-n-crispy 'roun the edges and could use assistance or all-out change. If you have skills we can use (can you write checks and handle money without embezzlin' it?) (can you push a shoppin' cart or cut up vegetables?) your help will enable this group to go on, to be there (as it was for me- in early '97) and to thrive and be even more fulla life and interestingness.

Till then stay safe and sane,
Kaelin Devlin

July 2001 Meeting Report

Hello again ladies and gentlemen. That's right, your Meet and Greet girl is back! First of all want to thank my dear friend Kaelin for doing a fabulous job filling my high heels by writing the last two meeting reports. I had other commitments to attend to, but here's the July report... on time for a change. There were about 70 members in attendance in July. That's a large number for a summer month meeting. We had about 8 first timers and we also had about 5 that hadn't been to a meeting in well over 5 years. It's always good to see members return.

The announcements were short as is usual in these summer months. Please understand that for those M to F crossdressers like myself, summer months offer a chance to wear our spaghetti straps, bathing suits and other skimpy outfits. It gives us a chance to show off our tans and wear the cutest sandals to display our sexy feet and painted toes to the world. But to most of our community, it is a time to let the hair on their bodies grow back. To many of us this is something they do not choose to share with other people in their environment, something they only share with a chosen few who are close to them and try to understand and accept who we are. So the events and happenings that are plentiful during the colder months, cut back in these warmer weather months.

Our main program for the evening was Troopers Carr and Becerra of the Pennsylvania State Police. They are community service officers and they gave a fabulous program. I talked personally with our new trooper friends and they explained this was their first exposure to transgender people. With that in mind I'd like to say that they were extremely courteous, friendly, approachable and above all they treated every one of us with the utmost respect. I even noticed they were always correct in their reference to us as women. I can't imagine how difficult that must be, especially in your first exposure to our community. I know I still make the mistake of saying "he" to some of my own friends. They gave us valuable information on different traffic violation situations and then they answered every single question asked of them. Anything they didn't have an answer to, they informed me that they would look further into the answers and E-mail them to me. I could go on and on about all they talked about, but then my editor would call me and use very unladylike language. But, I will check with my editor to see if I can write a separate column on what the troopers talked about specifically and get back to you. I do want to say thank you to Trooper Carr and Trooper Becerra for taking the time away from their families on a Saturday night for our meeting. And thank you for a fantastic program and for the wonderful treatment and respect you showed our community.

As the meeting came to a close it was great to see all the help we had cleaning up. I must compliment our membership on responding to my request for more people to volunteer with meeting set up and clean up. These meetings, and Renaissance in general, is for everyone and needs  the help of all those in our very special community. Thank you to everyone!

After the meeting is was off to our local hangout, Gator's. There were about thirty of us and the usual great time was had by all. The staff, as always, was fantastic in their treatment of our group. We'll be having our Holiday Party there again this year. I spoke to the manager, Barry, and he informed me that we wouldn't need to make reservations — he's already got us booked! Once again, with the proper approach and patience, we all will find acceptance in the mainstream.

Next month our main program will be Reverend Karla Fleshman. Her topic will be, "How not to get thumped"... how to deal with Bible bangers. She's been a guest at Renaissance before and has spoken publicly on many occasions. I also know her personally and find her to be friendly, knowledgeable and my friend.

That's it for this month's meeting report. I want to remind everyone that Renaissance is a nonprofit organization and any and all donations are always welcome and tax-deductible. Also remember that we are always accepting of all in our transgender community. Female to Male are always welcome and always part of our family. Don't forget that you can write me anytime with any and all questions, comments and opinions. I answer all and you know how I love getting E-mail. I'll see you all next month. Stay cool, stay tan, stay pretty and stay in touch.

Love and Hugs,
Roxy Wilson xoxo

June 2001 Meeting Report

from Kaelin Devlin

Well, I can only guestimate that there were forty-something attendees at the meeting, judging from the amount of leftover hoagies at the end. This, of course, is a wildly inaccurate guess not taking into account portions of each hoagie which may or may not have been eaten by each person, and whether or not everybody who was there actually ate there or not... I personally did not make a head count but food definitely went somewhere asides the carpet, cause that was pretty tidy.

In spite of the torrential rain that evening, lotsa people showed up... Mara Keisling gave a program focusing on the hows and whethers of coming out to people in your life, there were about five newcomers, and the evening went by too fast, as it always seems to me. Good news — I'z able to figure out how to hotwire the AC, which was a relief from the smuggy humidity. No more melting makeup. Summer's rough. Powder and perspiration=Yech.

Again, muchas gracias to all who worked like ants to set up and tear down, and helped fill in for Roxy and Viv this month. And to whomever it was who brought the peanut brittle (it was real goood) thanx! More stuff like that'll make the meetin's more interesting than they already are. And why not? Show off your talents and live a little, or a lot. Enjoy what you are and where you are. Hence the pink cookies and flowers, in case you wondered. Or if you have a topic that you want to discuss, let me know and I'll create a program around it. You don't have to moderate it, but your ideas can shape future meetin's, y'know. I asked yal to fill out my questionnaire on programs, if ya haint dun it yet, don't blame me if you think the programs are irrelevant, I try to present what you want. GPC=you. Enuffa preachin...

A smaller'n usual crowd gathered at Gators', on acounta the rain, again, and also from what I know, this time of year is family-busy, and there's not enough weekends to do everything all the time anyway. The DJ was attentive, but I felt it all went to waste, but I was busy in conversation and decompression and may be slightly incorrect, but it seemed nobody was dancin'. There was some pool played, I know cause I remember playing badly and losing. And also cause one of my bracelets broke over there. Happens.

Kaelin

Coming in July: A Community Relations officer from the Pa. State Police will be at the meeting so you will have a chance to ask questions to clarify Pa. road laws as they apply to the TG community.

Hi everyone. I just want to let everyone know that due to other commitments I haven't been able to attend the May and June GPC meetings. My dear friend Kaelin has been sweet enough to fill in for me writing the monthly meeting reports. However, I'm still and always a very active member of Renaissance. I'm the National Outreach Director and Sales Manager for TCN. My commitment to Renaissance is deeply soulful and true to my very existence. My love of being a part of this incredible community is only overshadowed by my desire to help any and all of my brothers and sisters. So I'm always here and available to answer any questions and would love any comments you may have about Renaissance. You know how I love to get email and answer all. Feel free to write to me anytime about anything on your mind. And please remember that FtM's are always a welcome part of our community. We have several FtM national Renaissance members and our doors are always open. I'll be back in July and I may even shock my editor and have the July meeting report in on time. I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you. Talk to you soon.

Hugs and Love,
Roxy Wilson

May 2001 Meeting Report

The May 2001 GPC Meeting drew 40 something people. It's difficult to get an accurate count with so much going on, even more so when the official counter was with Roxy, who was not at the meeting, opting instead for Gay Bingo in Philadelphia, where in addition to having a good time, she's educating the Drag Queens in her own way on what the "T" in GLBT is all about.

Also absent that evening was Chapter Leader Viv who contracted something unpleasant and was downright unable to lead much'a anything that day. She's much better now, really.

Many thanks to Amanda and Melissa for taking Roxy's spot, and Angela, for ordering most'a the food we needed online in a hurry, and everyone else whose names escape me, sincerest thanks for helping to pull the meeting to order (and to tear it all down after) in the absence of two who do a lot every month to make the meetings go as smoothly as they do.

So, we had a three-foot hoagie, or was it six foot? The remnants made it hard to tell. Which reminds me, I've been to pot-luck functions, and the buffet at the meetings could be a whole lot more interesting if anyone wanted to bring their own food or desert to share with the group. We'd waive your door fee for that y'know. Just show us some reciepts, and don't try to weasel thru the door with a cupcake or a week-old haffa tuna sandwich okay? (Note from Angela: It was actually ordered by phone but I looked at the deli's menu online. They couldn't do the three foot hoagie on short notice so we got a bunch of regular ones and cut them up. Three foot hoagie next time, maybe. Dr. Michele Angello brought all the cookies and pretzels.)

The program for the evening was Dr. Bruce Genter of the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Center in Jenkintown, Pa. He has an ad in TCN with a long list of services, or you can call at 215-572-7744 or visit his website for more info. He did an AV presentation of some sort — I never get a chance to see the programs I set up — and his associates raffled off some door prizes as well. I didn't win anything personally, and whoever did musta squirreled them off quickly, cause I didn't even see what the door prizes were.

We had three newcomers for the evening, one of which was a high school student. We had a 50/50 raffle, and ran the bookstore, thanks again to the gals who made it so. If you can't stand the lack of specific names and numbers, then you be the reporter girl next time and actually take names and other info to give to Roxy when she writes this lil' report. I'm too scattered for that. (I know how to get there but can't tell you the street names).

Most of us can still get to the meeting site without a Rt.202 construction hassle. Rumor has it that the Warner Rd. exit will be altered in a big way this fall. Check the US 202 website for clues on that. The route to Gator's has changed but we still get there easy enough to radically change the balance of non-trans to trans people after 10 o'clock. We closed the place again, many of us chattin away, some of us playing pool with a few of the locals there. As usual, it's over too quickly, at least that's how I feel. Many of you I only see once a month, or less.

Till then take care and try not to drive wearing ridiculous shoes that get tangled in the pedals.

Sitting in for Roxy Wilson,

Kaelin Devlin

June program to be announced.

Coming in July Our July program will be a Community Service person from the PA State Police to talk and answer questions you may have about being transgendered and how it relates to traffic laws, etc.

MARCH 2001 MEETING REPORT

Hello and welcome to March's meeting report. We had a strong turnout of 80 including 9 newcomers. This month started off on a great note as 2 of our members (Liz and Leah) came early to volunteer to help with meeting setup. It's so hard to get volunteers and I want to thank you two ladies. Your help was greatly appreciated. Please remember we all must help to help Renaissance survive. We are a nonprofit group that needs the support of its own members.

My favorite newcomer this month was Jane. She's been writing to me for a couple of months and finally had the right circumstances in her life to attend. She came in her male persona, but quickly changed into Jane. She needed help with her makeup and another Renaissance sister, Crystyna, was more then willing to help. We are truly a family. Jane appeared later and she looked as happy as I knew she be. She was finally Jane in a friendly and safe environment and her glow lit the room. Those happy stories make me proud to be a member of Renaissance.

Our announcements featured a Rainbow Cabaret coming up at our Washington Crossing Affiliate, New Jersey Support. You can find out more info by clicking their link on the Chapter & Affiliate page. The Lower Susquehanna Valley Chapter was asking for members to join them in a rally for gender rights in Harrisburg, Pa. on April 24th. Go to their page and check it out for more details.

Our main program for the evening was an open discussion led by Dr. Michele Angelo. She has her doctorate in Human Sexuality. The subject was crossdressing and sexuality. I attended the program and found it fascinating, lively, educational and fun. We talked about everything from sexual orientation to the feelings or fantasies we have while we are in our female or male personas. It was fast paced and very interesting. Dr. Angelo has a private practice with offices in Phoenixville and Wayne, Pa. You can call her at 610-917-8561.

After the meeting we went to Gator's to wind down and enjoy ourselves, but as it was St. Patty's Day, the place was mobbed. I've never seen it 1/4 that crowded. Most times we go there is only 10-20 customers. But there were too many to count. And even through all that, and I know most of the crowd had never seen trans people before, we still had a great time. The management made sure that we all were taken care of and wouldn't tolerate anything that would offend. There was only one minor incidence, and the manager tossed him and his entire party out immediately. He then came over to apologize and see that everything was OK. I told him the response to the situation was handled perfectly and couldn't thank the management enough. He thanked us for being such loyal and fun customers for over a year already. By the end of the night, these people had a better understanding of trans people and some were posing for pictures with us. Always asking for permission first and never anything tasteless or offensive. The world is not as scary as most of us think it is. Maybe we just have to be willing to take some smart, safe chances once in a while. Remember, there is safety in numbers so always bring a friend.

Next month our main program will be Melanie Mintmer from Amex Financial Planning. She'll be talking about long term planning geared toward transsexual surgery. The meeting is, as always, on the third Saturday and that will be April 21st. Meeting starts at 9 PM and the doors open at 8 PM Please feel free to join us as our doors are open to transgender people and their families. You are not alone.

Please remember that Renaissance is a nonprofit group and needs your support. If you feel you've been helped by us in any way maybe you could give a tax deductible donation to help us continue our mission to help others in your own community. Don't forget to volunteer at whatever chapter you belong to as the local chapters are men and women like all of us who donate their time and energy and could always use the help. Renaissance doesn't run itself, it's run by the people in the community which includes us all. Help keep our community's dreams alive by giving what you can, be it money or your time.

I'm looking forward to the (hopeful) warming of the weather. I'm so sick of being bundled and cold. I know for some M to F's the warm weather poses issues about shaving, but I'm very open about my crossdressing so I'm going to be a little selfish here. I can't wait for shorts and skirts without stockings and tank tops with pretty blouses. I'll talk to everyone next month. As usual, please email me your questions and comments as I will answer all as quickly as possible. Have a great first month of Spring and I'm looking forward to seeing you at at a meeting.

 Hugs and Kisses,

Roxy Wilson, GPC Meet and Greet, National Outreach Director of Renaissance

FEBRUARY REPORT

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome to my first monthly meeting report for 2001. I'm even on time for a change. Sorry about last month, but Momma doesn't drive 50 miles in the snow to go anywhere. OK, maybe for a great shoe sale, but that's it. This month's meeting was wonderful, as usual. We had an attendance of 85 and that's including 11 newcomers. Our first time visitors had the First Timer Orientation meeting, which I think is a great feature of our group. It gives them the chance to relax, meet others who are at their first meetings and gives you an overall outline about what Renaissance is all about.

One newcomer was my favorite. Her name is Valerie and she arrived very early in obvious excitement. She was in her male persona but had listened to yours truly and brought her femme clothes. It didn't take long before she realized she had to be dressed. I showed her where to go and then she asked for help with her makeup as she never really did it by herself. I asked one of the women who were part of our main program to please help her and she did. Well, let me tell you something, she looked fantastic. I couldn't believe what a great makeup job our friend Tina, from Katie Wannabe's Boutique, did for Valerie. Valerie had already picked out the cutest dress for her first visit and the makeup finished her off. I could see how happy she was to be Valerie. That's one of the many reasons why I love being involved with my community—the pure happiness that shows on someone's face when they get to express their true inner self.

So as the crowd kept coming in, happiness and laughter filled the room. I was a busy little bee as our yearly membership was up for renewal. All our Chapter memberships run January thru December, so the first couple of meetings of the year get a little hectic at the Meet and Greet desk. I haven't finished updating our membership onto my floppy yet, but I'll have some figures for you next month. I'm also proud and thrilled to announce that we have a couple of F to M members already. I just want to again make the notation here that we welcome all our transgendered brothers and sisters. We are all one family. Please don't feel like you don't belong here. If you are M to F or F to M, you are part of our family at Renaissance. (Just a note from Roxies online editor, ANYONE who is interested is welcome at a Renaissance meeting. All family, friends, students or whatever are always welcome.)

We had our announcements at 9 as usual. Some other chapters had some interesting news. Our Delaware Chapter announced that they are looking to have a large group picture taken to correspond with our sisters overseas. There's a transgendered group in Ireland, I believe, that wants to trade group pictures for Saint Patrick's Day as a tribute to show solidarity to our causes.

The Washington Crossing Chapter announced that Donna Miller, of Donna's Hair Salon in Ewing, will be at their March meeting offering makeovers, wigs and a host of other services that cater to our community. Donna is a dear friend of mine who has been serving the transgendered community for 25 years. She is a member of National Renaissance and advertises in TCN. I know Donna's work and can honestly say that she and her staff are wonderful people who do fabulous work. She's been the hair and nail vendor at Paradise at the Poconos for several years. You can check out her web site at: http://www.donnashair.com

Once announcements were over our main program started soon after. The program was another great job set up by our wonderful program director, Kaelin Devlin. She just keeps coming up with great programs month after month. We are very lucky to have her. The main program was given by Katie Wannabe. Katie is also a dear friend of mine and she is the owner of her own fashion boutique named after herself. She's also a Renaissance National member, a member of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of Renaissance, President of Transgendered Business Group and also advertises in several transgendered publications. You can check out her web site at: http://www.katiewannabe.com

She has held several fashion shows for the trans community that featured Renaissance girls as models, including yours truly. The program was a cute demonstration of a total makeover including clothing. She did it in a very unique way as it was set up as a skit that featured several of Kate's wonderful employees and friends. The music was fantastic and the show was very well done.

After the meeting finally started to wind down we headed over to our hot spot Gator's for our usual monthly shindig. There were about 50 of us this time. No wonder the owners love us! I can't express enough to those that have never attended a meeting or chose to go with us, how wonderful the entire staff and the patrons are to us. I just want everyone to know that we are 100% accepted there and they treat us no different than any other customers except for one exception; they seem to go out of their way to make sure that we're all comfortable being there. They show us the respect that we all seek whenever we venture out into the world. I know I go on about the staff at Gator's but it's very heartwarming to know there are people out there who understand that we're just regular people who want to go out and have some fun without being judged. So if you've never been to Gator's with us, please plan on going at your next meeting. You won't regret it.

Our next meeting is March 17th, which is St. Patrick's Day. So show your spirit and try to wear something green. I have to tell you I don't think I own anything green as it's just not my color, but I'll see what I can do for the meeting. Our main program next month will be given by Dr. Michele Angello. She is also a National Renaissance member as well as being on the National Renaissance Board. She's a member of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter and is also a dear friend of mine. Have you notice how many wonderful friends I've made since being a Renaissance girl? You just meet the most wonderful, warmest people you'll ever meet. I'm truly blessed with all these great friends. Anyway, she has her Ph.D. in Human Sexuality and has attended several national conferences on sexuality, transgenderism, etc. I spoke to her the other day about the program and she said it will be on crossdressers and their sexual experiences, thoughts, feelings and even fantasies. She is thinking of making this an open forum so if anyone has questions they might want to ask about themselves, maybe she can help provide you with some advice. I've been to other programs given by Dr. Angello and can tell you that she gives a fabulous presentation. I'm sure this will be interesting to all who attend. Please remember that all our programs are always free for you to attend.

Just a little reminder, each chapter of Renaissance runs as it's own entity. So when you've paid your dues to the National, that doesn't include membership to your local chapter. Each chapter pays its own bills and needs the support of its members. Our yearly fee is only $20. The meetings for members are only $5 once you've paid your yearly dues. The meeting is $10 for nonmembers. First-timers are always free and s/o's are always free at our meetings. But please note that no one will be turned away from Renaissance. If you can't afford to pay you are still welcome. We only ask for this money as a donation to help offset the cost of running these meetings. Any donations are always accepted and tax deductible.

Well, I guess that wraps up this monthly meeting report. Hopefully spring will show up early and our next meeting won't be as cold. I can't wait for the warm weather. You ladies and gentlemen have a great month and please remember to allow yourself time for you to be you. Go out and show the world who you are, but do it as always, carefully. Just go to the right places at the right times. You'll be surprised at how little people care when they have their own lives going on. It's not all about you just because you're out there dressed. Have some fun, be pretty, be handsome, but always be smart.

Thank you all for reading my column and I hope you enjoy it as well as find some things interesting. You can always write to me as I answer all email as quickly as possible. Ask me anything or give me a comment. All is welcome. I'll talk to you all next month.

January 2001 Meeting Report

A Winter Odyssey

(Miss Kaelin Devlin subs for our Meet & Greet Girl, Roxy)

The January GPC meeting—yes, we did have one—was attended by about one third of the usual crowd, thirty-somethingish determined souls bent on making the meeting in spite of dear Mother Nature's untimely snow. We even had our program person show... and on time to boot! Caryn Hartman, Program Director for Alternatives at Belmont, a health program with psychiatric and chemical dependency services gave a talk about their services. They are open to the GLBT community.

Joanne White filled in as greeter cause Roxy couldn't make the meeting, which is why I'm filling in for Roxy with the web report. We had no slippages in spite of all the girlheels and the icy sidewalk. We had one newcomer, several old faces, and a good handful of infrequent visitors.

A smaller crowd still went to Gator's after and stayed past one in spite of that serious coating of snow which almost froze me outa my car when I finally left! And me in 6" platform sandals. (I really couldn't help that, trust me) I hope all made it home safely.

Next month, weather sparing, we'll have a regular meeting. Our program will be Katie Wannabee, featuring a small fashion show of wares from her Formal Boutique.

We had a poor response to the Renni Awards ballots. If Dina Amberle decides to postpone it a bit, it'd leave y'all some time to vote on it, please? (To vote in the Renni Awards contact Dina Amberle. You must be a Renaissance Member to vote. The results will be announced in the March or April issue of our magazine, Transgender Community News.)

One more bit of business, Tina is helping to put on a Spring Ball on Saturday, May 12th, in the close-to-New Hope area. Probably at the Best Western there, and probably around $35. Plan a flowery, Spring New Hope weekend thing around it... or not, but if you are nair certain you could go, contact me asap so'z to get a count, confirm reservations, make it good, etc! See ya!

GPC Chapter Program Lady,
Kaelin Devlin

2000 Holiday Party Report

Hello everyone. Yeah, I know, I know, Roxy's late with the meeting summary. Awwwww... shut up! Don't you think I know that? I'm 2 weeks into the New Year and there's one resolution shot down already! Oh well, I'm going to reinstitute my resolution again and make it happen this time and get these reports in within a week of each meeting. Your laughing now, but you'll see !

Now for the meeting report. Last month there was no meeting, but something even better, our annual Holiday Party. As much as I thought the party would be great, it was even better then I could've imagined. We held it at our hangout, Gator's, and they did the most fabulous job for us. They had us set up in a special room in the back that I didn't even know they had. It was decorated so pretty and festive by Gator's, with our own special touch given to the decorations by our own Program Director, Kailin Devlin. She always does such cute things whenever we have something around any holiday. She's gonna make a great Mom someday.

We had a total of 35 guests for dinner and I thought that was a great turnout. Everyone was looking so glamorous in our evening and party dresses. I was so very proud of our intimate group. I mean everyone looked fantastic and so happy. We even had 2 special guests, JoAnn Roberts, one of the founding mothers of Renaissance, and the head of The Transgender Fund, Diane Dale. I can't tell you without going on forever how much these two women have done and continue to do for the transgendered community. It was truly very special to have these two incredible women with us sharing our holiday celebrations.

We started off with a fabulous cocktail hour and the food never stopped coming. I found everything they served delicious and plenty of it. The main courses you could choose from were Chicken Alfredo, BBQ chicken or sirloin steak. All fantastic meals. The staff was even above their usual efficient selves. They gave us 2 steady waitresses and up to 5 when serving dinner and dessert. All have been around us before as we go there every month, but they've now actually become be our friends. We know them on a first name basis and they know us. I can't rave enough on the way they've treated since our first venture into their establishment some 16 months ago.

Once we finished dinner we invited folks to continue to utilize the room we had or venture out to the main bar and dance floor. You know where I went, as I've said before that I'm a disco dancing queen! So off I went with several others right behind me. The music was great and the drinks and dancing were aplenty. About 10 others joined us for the after portion of our holiday party. We would've had more as I know several girls called me later in the week that they were all set to come and that the weather stopped them. It was raining and the weatherman was calling for the rain to maybe freeze, so some of our members who live in the colder outskirts were afraid of dangerous driving conditions. But that's still quite a turnout and a FANTASTIC time.

What's Up This Month? (January)

This month the meeting moves back to it's regular 3rd Saturday of the month at the usual place which if you don't know where it is you look up on our web site. I spoke to our Program Director, Kaelin Devlin, and she told me she had a surprise main program that she was keeping a secret, so this should be great one. But I think that Miss Devlin runs a fantastic program every month.

We'll have our usual first timers programs along with the usual safe haven for all who attend. I also will continue to sign up our 2001 memberships. Just to remind everyone, the national registration and dues have nothing to do with the local chapter's as we all run on our own. Your GPC membership yearly dues is $20 and only goes to help us defray the costs we have to run each meeting every month. Once you've paid dues then every meeting you come to for the rest of the year is only $5. But we ask you to sign up ASAP as the money is needed for the cost to keep your haven open for all of us. So please make sure you see me if you know your up for membership renewal. (Your National Dues of $45 gets you 12 issues of Transgender Community News.)

I guess that ends another fabulous monthly meeting report. Please remember you're always welcome at Renaissance and we are open for everyone. Not just male to female, but female to male are also welcome and encouraged to attend. We are all part of the same family. No matter what your race, religious beliefs or anything I haven't mentioned, YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! I'll look forward to seeing all the usuals, and hopefully I'll meet some new people and see some familiar faces this month.

Remember it's winter so bundle up and go buy a pretty new sweater or something. But always remember to be true to yourself because you are special. And you have a place to go and be your true self without judgment. You might even make a new friend or better yet, even get a makeup tip! At least you'll get to say hi to me and I always look forward to that. Until next month (on time hopefully) you all stay warm and be pretty. And all you female to males, go out and start the car to get it warm for us girls... be the gentleman I know you want to be. Take care everyone.

Hugs and Kisses,
Roxy Wilson

NOVEMBER MEETING REPORT (Including HOLIDAY PARTY INFO)

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of my monthly meeting report. Let's start out this month by my explaining a few things. First of all I know I missed another month and the only excuse I have is that I've been very busy in other areas of our community. I think I might've put too much on my plate, but I'm organizing myself because I enjoy all I do for the community and wish to do it all in a timely and productive manner. With that said I hope my apologies are accepted and let's continue.

Last month we had our annual "Vendors Night." That's the night when our program director, Kaelin Devlin, gets quite a few vendors all selling different wares that will help provide our community with any and all the help they need, no matter what that need might be. Usually I go to each and every vendor to talk to them about their products so I can pass on the information to you readers. But unfortunately I was ridiculously busy with other things to even leave my "Meet and Greet" post. But I did talk to Miss Devlin who assured me that the event went very well as we had about 10 different vendors.I wish I had more to report on that but I don't. I'll try to get more information from Kailin for a future report.

The reason I was so busy is that it's membership time at our group. That time of the year when our yearly membership dues is renewed and I was also collecting money for our annual Holiday party. For those who dont understand, the National membership does not include local chapter dues. each chapter has their own expenses that they must take care of themselves. That's why it's so important that everyone supports his/her local chapter in any way they can.

We had our election of officers which stayed the same as last year. I'll get the offical word from our Chapter leader Vivian Shaw on all the positions and office holders and print them next month.

This month's turnout was just fantastic. We had about 80 visitors including 12 first-timers and I'm so please to announce that we also had 4 FtM crossdressers. I love to see our brothers getting out with us and showing the world what wonderful men they are. Being true to themselves in their own masculine ways. Besides, it's good to have a man around to put the tables away and lug things around that I'm WAY too pretty and feminine to be lugging around. Besides, what if I break a nail or run my stockings? I love having these guys around and wish they'd bring some friends along, too. Thank you again gentlemen.

About 9 of the first timers came dressed enfemme and they were very glad they did after they arrived. A few came out withus later and expressed to me the joy they didn't know could even exist. So if you're thinking about a first time meeting, c'mon down !!!

Our night ended as usual at our hangout "Gator's". A great was again had by all and the locals were very friendly to us as they alwasy are. It's amazing how nice people are to us when we're at Gator's. They realize for themselves that we're just regular people who want to go out and have a good time any way we choose. I think the exposure to us is good for them and good for some of us who've always been worried what people think or say. You can go out and just be you, use your head and never go where you even THINK might be a problem. You'll find plenty of places for you to go if you just use good judgement.

HOLIDAY PARTY THIS MONTH

Now, for the big news! We have our annual Holiday Party this month (December). This means there will be NO REGULAR MEETING this month. We will be at Gator's all night. Anyone interested in going can write to me for more information. I can tell you it's December 16th at 8 PM and it's a sit down dinner. $40 per person includes dinner and dessert and unlimited non-alcohol beverages. The bar is open as a cash bar if you'd like to indulge. I've had the food at Gator's and it's delicous. The people who work there are just some the most wonderful people I've met. They make you feel very special. We need the money by about a week before so we can give Gator's a head count. If you want to come please write me and we'll get you a seat. If you can't make the dinner then please feel free to join us about 10PM for dancing and more at Gator's. We'll close the place I'm sure, as we always seem to do that anyway. Cash bar, free admission and great DJ. Also some of the sexiest men and women you'll find in the greater Philadelphia area.

Please help us celebrate the Holidays and come on down. Dress your best and dance the night away.

Next month I'll let you know how the party went and what's coming up at our January meeting. Until then please take care and enjoy your holidays. Please don't drink and drive and always be true to yourself. Even if it's just in your soul. Know who you are and love yourself for the person you are inside. Please feel free to write any questions or comments to me. I always answer and look forward to hearing from the community that I love so. Happy Holiday's to all and to all a good night!

Love and Hugs,
Roxy Wilson

SEPTEMBER MEETING REPORT

Hello to all the wonderful t-people of our community and welcome to another edition of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter's monthly meeting summary. I have to begin by apologizing for the absence of my report last month, but my computer was in the shop and never came out in time to meet the deadlines. But guess what.... I'm baaaaaack!

So here we are turning the corner of fall as we head into the colder months. You should be aware by now that this is the time of year most of our MtF's look forward to as they start to cover up with clothes and uncover from the hair they've had to grow back over the summer. Our meetings usually become a little more crowded with the wonderful influx of the summer hibernation crossdressers. Our September meeting brought about 70 people and if you didn't make it you missed an incredible main program put together by our Program Director Kailin Devlin.

Our meeting's are as usual on the third Saturday of every month. This month's meeting started off well as I started to see we were going to have another nice turnout. We had about 8 first-timers who all had nothing but great things to say. Included in the 8 first-timers were about 3 s/o's (significant others) who were sweet enough to accompany their mates to their first meetings. That's always nice to see in our community. As a matter of fact, we've been having a rather steady turnout of s/o's. So much so that one of our members, Dr. Michele Angello, has offered to head a group for s/o's. She has a degree in sexual therapy and is eager to help. It's just a part of our way we all help each other out. I think that'd be an interesting session to get in on. I'm hoping we get a large turnout as I think these kind of sessions and group discussions can only help all who try to help themselves and better their understanding of our feelings and their's as well. She'll be hopefully having her first meeting before we turn the New Year.

At our announcement section of our meeting our Chapter Leader, Vivian Shaw, made the announcement that next month's (October) meeting will be our Halloween Costume contest. You don't have to wear a costume but are certainly encouraged to let yourself go wild with imagination. We'll have our usual costume contest, but as a little twist this year, the judges will be all the newcomers! But don't feel out of place if you can't or don't want wear a costume. We're very aware that for many crossdressers just being out dressed in femme is "costume" enough. I know that feeling. But also I want to take this moment to remind all that we welcome with open arms all Female to Male crossdressers. We were having a steady turnout on FtM's, then the last couple of months haven't had any at the meetings. Please make sure if you're Ft M that you know you're welcome to attend and become part of our family.

We also had an announcement of a Fashion Show in Willow Grove being sponsored by one of our newest members, Katie Wannabe. She was offering a few freebie's at the show and introducing her new company called, what else, "Katie Wannabe Formal Boutique." She caters to our community and you can check her out on the web at new site: www.KatieWannabe.com She has a kind staff who's always helpful and willing to serve the commmunity and all our special needs. You can call her too for an appointment or questions at 215-673-3722 and just tell her Roxy sent you from Renaissance. Katie is also a member of our Chapter. I went to the fashion show but that's another story for another time. It was a great time, though.

The announcement for the 4th International Congress was made once again by our National Board Member Angela Gardner. She's also running the Congress and was looking for volunteers to help in many ways at the Congress. She had a good number of people at the meeting offering to help make the Congress a succcess. We have such a special family that even though I see it first hand, I'm always still amazed at the support everyone has for each other.

Now for the program of the evening. Kailin set up our program with several vendors that have special services that cater to our community's needs and are extremely TG friendly. I visited with all of them. The first vendor was from the company named "Nilah". It's owned and operated by a warm and wonderful person who named the company after herself. Nilah was an absolute pleasure to talk to and had a great business. She specializes in the making and altering of clothing. She brought some samples of her work and some of the girls even wore them around the meeting to showcase them. They were all original and gorgeous. She does custom made clothing, from ultra-conservative to ultra-funky. She does all alterations for any clothing, even ready to wear. She told me that you can bring her in a picture and she'll make the outfit for you from the picture. The only catch is that she is by appointment only, but it's done in her very private shop where it'll only be you and her and very personal service. Her shop is easy to find off Route 1 in suburban Philly.. Call her for any questions or to set up an appointment at 610-853-9822. Leave a message and use any name you're comfortable with using. LIke I said earlier, all our vendors are ALWAYS TG friendly.

Our next vendor was "Lady Remington". They have an advertisment in TCN in case you never saw it. The shop is run by Trish and Chris. They were both very friendly and very helpful. They have quite an assotment of fashion jewelery and both are very knowledgeable about their products. All the items come with a "Lifetime Replacement Warranty". I thought that was quite an attractive selling point to their business. All the jewelery was high quality and had such an expensive look to them. I couldn't help but to purchase a couple of items myself. You know how us girls are about jewelery. They offer a special service of teaching you to accessorize and whenever you buy 2 items the third one of equal value is half price. Please call them at 609-737-8965 or fax at 609-730-1750. They'll give you all the information you need and answer all your questions.

Next up was "Hair Pair". They sell, what else, wigs. The business is run by a full staff led by Lorraine, Len and Rachel. Now we all know how important a good wig can be. I personally think it may be the most important item for a MtF crossdresser. And the staff at Hair Pair is highly trained and skilled at finding just the right look for you. They brought an ample supply of samples and were so much fun to talk to. Their shop has booths to insure your privacy and of course are very TG friendly. You can check out their web site for prices and hair service at http://www.hairpair.com or call them for information and an appointment at 215-482-1988 or 215-482-2771. They are located in Philadelphia a short distance from the Schuylkill Expressway. They also advertise in TCN if you subscribe.

Our last vendor has been with us before. She's our Mary Kay repesentative Michele Guerin. She is not only TG friendly, but I'd like to say that she enjoys our family so much that she's become our friend. She even went out after the meeting with us to Gator's. She brought plenty of samples and was busy showing girls tips on applying make-up and taking care of yourself with skin cremes and other products. She's one of the most informative and knowledgeable cosmetics people I've met. She knows her products and knows how to use them. She offers a free pampering session at her home. It's by appointment only but she does have Saturday's available. Saturday appointments are at 10:30AM and 1 PM. Her session includes a facial, make- over and even hand treatments. The sessions are all very private and your sure to feel comfortable by Michele. Give her a call to set up an appointment at 610-565-3565 and make sure you tell her Roxy sent you.

The meeting lasting a little longer then usual due to the highly sucessful program and then we went to our usual hangout, Gator's. The DJ was playing more of the music the younger crowds listen to, but after we arrived and I went to talk to him, he started playing some great dance songs and the dance floor began to fill quickly led by, yours truely, Roxy. I can't express enough times to anyone out there who's never been to one of our meetings, that we are very welcome at Gator's and the staff treats us wonderfully. We are so popular with the owners that we're having our Christmas party there this year. And in case you want to make early plans, the party will be on the 3rd Saturday in December instead of our monthly meeting. So come on out and party with us.

Well, thats the meeting report for this month. I'll be back next month again. Please remember that as crossdressers in any public venues our worse fears are in our own minds. So don't be afraid to go out someplace that has a traditional safety record, IE: malls, grocery stores, retail stores, chain eatery's, etc. Go with a friend and just be yourself. The rest of the world has more on they're minds then you. Enjoy the colder weather and the joy of shaving those legs once again, and have a great fall and Halloween. Come out to a meeting and never forget to say hi as I greet you at the door and tell me you heard of Renaissance from the web site. You'll know right away you found your safe crossdressing haven. Be safe and be happy. You can write me for any information or comments or just to say hello. I will answer all letters personally ASAP. Write me via email.

Love and Kisses,

Roxy Wilson

July Meeting Report

Hello to all. Another monthly meeting report. At the July meeting we had another large crowd, especially for a summer month. There were about 75 people in attendance. My only displeasure was that for the first time in 3 months we had no F to M transgendered visitors. Make sure all you F to M's out there know that you are very welcome in our haven. Besides that, I need someone to flirt with.

We had nothing major mentioned at the announcement portion of our evening outside of the regular announcements, but I'm sure we'll be hearing soon some information about x-mas party 2000. But I'm very happy to report that our little family finally seems to be getting together to pitch in and help our haven work. I noticed new people arriving early to help with the set-up and staying later to help with the clean-up. We also had plenty of help in our bookstore this month, which means more then you can even imagine. Remember, the group doesn't't work on it's own. It's the membership, the people, that make it all happen. So always be willing to give back to the community that makes your life a better life by just helping whenever you can, no matter how small you may think it is.

We had a very special guest this month. Her name is Robin Jarrett. She's an actress and a very sweet person. She ran a small class teaching the finer points of acting feminine. I attended the show myself and I have got to tell you that she runs a great class. Not only was it fun, but very informative. Since her class I've used a couple of things that she taught us and it's amazing the things we learned to do over a lifetime as men that seems to just carry over to our femme personas. Oh well, better late then never. She used us to show ourselves what we preceive as feminine and how we forget so many little things. Things that women do that we just take for granted. I spoke to her later that evening and she said she'd love to come back again next year.I think we'd love to have her.

The meeting did have 5 first timers. This was the first time I can remember that all of the first timers came dressed. I've never seen all the first timers go out with us afterwards either, but there they were. I was so proud and happy for them. One even brought her wife along and I found them both to be the sweetest people. For a couple of the first timers, it was their first time out in public. It does my heart good to see them not only out, but just so unbelievably happy. That is what our family is about. Being there for each other and making sure that we're all as happy as we can be.

Our time at the bar was better then usual this month. The DJ was doing a great job and playing all our requests that he had with him. The staff was it's usual pleasant self and a great time was had by all. In case you didn't't know, I used to be a disco king, but I guess now I'm a disco queen. HAHAHA

But as usual our night had to end. But there's always next month because we're always there for you. Next month our special guest will be Dr. Youcha. He's a physician with Main Line Women's Healthcare Associates. He'll be discussing a subject close to a transgendered person's heart, hair removal. I personally can't wait to see what he has to say. On another personal note, I just want to say that I wore my own hair again this month and it was done for me by my g/f, who's trying so hard to accept my chosen lifestyle. I'll see if Angela can post a picture with this report. Yeah, I know, but find me a crossdresser that ISN't vain and I'll show you a pair of pantyhose that never runs.

Well, that's it for this month. Always remember that if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to write me at RoxyRocky59@cs.com. I'll always answer everyone and look forward to helping in any way I can. Don't forget that we're always here for you. Your haven awaits you and you'll never be alone. You have to make the first step and we'll help you after that. You'll never have to do anything your not comfortable doing. See for yourself that we are all family. We met on the third Saturday of every month. This month's meeting will be on August 19th. I'll look forward to seeing you there and don't forget to say hi to me as you walk in and tell us where you heard of us. Talk to you next month. Enjoy your summer and keep cool.

June Meeting Report

Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to another monthly meeting report. The June meeting had a fairly large turnout considering it was a summer, foundation melting meeting. We had about 65 people this month. We also had 2 F to M crossdressers which I`m so glad to see. We had about 6 first timers, too.

Our special guest this month was Reverend Karla Lee Fleshman. She was introducing us the relatively new religion called "Imago Dei". It actually translates to Image of God. She`s the pastor of the Imago Dei Metropolitan Community Church (MCC).

It is a Christian community of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered and heterosexual allies who are committed to nurturing people to seek out and receive loving relationships with God, themselves and their neighbors. The church believes that ALL persons are created in the image of God and considered good by God.

They meet every Sunday in Media,PA. They have a lot more to offer all who are even a little interested in finding out more about this wonderful community. Please feel free to contact Imago Dei. Their web page address is : www.imagodeimcc.org. You can email them at : ImagodeiMCC@ao.com. Or you can even call and ask to speak to Reverend Karla Fleshmen at 610-724-2146.

I got to sit in on the session she was giving at the meeting and I found what she was talking about of great interest. If you`ve been turned away from Religion then you should at least give her a listen to because she has a lot of good things happening at her church. I also spoke with her and she is very sweet and has a great sense of humor. She was very down to earth and cute, too !!! We hope to have her back in the future.

The announcements this month were very small other then some items that only make sense if your at the meetings or a member. So I`m not going to bore you with any of them. But as usual our regular members made all our newcomers feel at home and I great time was had by all.

After the meeting we went to our usual hangout "Gaters". They were setting up for a Fathers Day brunch the next day and there wasn`t a lot of dancing, but that gave everyone a better chance to just sit around and talk for a while. We always manage to have our own special times when we`re all together. We are certainly a special group.

Next month we have a very special and unique guest coming to our little haven. Robin Jarrett. She`s an actress who`s been on several TV shows that she`ll tell us all about at the meeting. But the main purpose for her visit will be teaching us ways to act and be more feminine. She`s done this for us before and it is just incredible what you learn from her. The little things that you`d never think about, she`ll point them out and help us all to be more feminine. I`m very excited for her appearance and can`t wait to meet her.

There was one announcement that I`d like to mention. Renaissance Board member Angela Gardener, made a plea with all the membership to please make some kind of a small donation to assist our group in our efforts to keep our group going. We`re having some financial difficulties right now and could really use a little boost from our membership. She said something that is so true, that if we all just give a little bit, there would be plenty for all. We just need to realize that the group cannot be run for free and we ask that you please help in any way you can. We need to have our little haven and we all need to pitch in and do all you can, no amount is to little.

Well that's it till next month. I hope you all enjoy this first month of summer and try to stay cool under that makeup. And you female to males can just stop laughing at out melting faces. But make sure you keep coming because you are all welcome. Just make sure you flirt with me a little, I need the attention. To those of you who can`t shave till the weather changes, just hang in there and remember to wear pants suits. I`ll be waiting for you first timers to come out and visit, too. make sure you say hi when you see me and tell me how you heard of us. Your haven awaits you. As usual, please feel free to give me your comments and ask any questions as I answer you all. My address is: RoxyRocky59@cs.com. I`ll talk to you next month. Be pretty and stay cool.

Hugs and Kisses,

Roxy Wilson

May Meeting Report

Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to another edition of my monthly meeting summary for the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of Renaissance. Like I mentioned in last months column, our summer meetings have a smaller turnout. But I'm happy to report that we still had about 60 people at the meeting. Our tireless chapter leader, Vivian Shaw took a long overdue vacation to France. That left Kailin Devlin, our program director, and myself to act as co-chapter leaders. I thought we did a terrific job... even I do say so myself.

Our guest this month was Rhonda D. Hoyman. Rhonda is the author of the autobiography, "Woman In Me.” I read the book myself and it was fantastic reading. I was lucky enough to spend a few minutes with Rhonda and found her to be very sweet, intelligent and humble. She doesn't see herself as a crusader, but someone who is extremely happy with her life, (finally) and she wishes to share her story in the hopes of maybe helping someone who might need to know they're not alone. Her presentation was very professionally done, yet you felt like you were with someone from your own family. She gave a slide show which she narrated to explain every picture and the significance behind each picture. She then had a spirited question and answer period. Rhonda brought copies of her book and she sold autographed copies book at the "steal" price of $20. A price only for Renaissance members. If anyone is still interested in obtaining an autographed copy of her book or just want to pass a message to her, her email address is rhonda@rhondas-transition.com You can also check out her website. She's a very friendly lady who would love to hear from you and also sign and send you a copy of her book. She was truly a pleasure to have as a guest.

Next month our guest will be Reverend Karla Fleshman. At this time I can't say what Karla will be talking about, but I'll try to look into it and make an addition to this column ASAP.

There was an announcement made by Angela Gardner about a party at the club "Shampoo" in Philadelphia on June 9th. The party is being hosted by Transgender Community News. I've been to Shampoo myself and I can tell you that if you're looking for a fun night out with a great bunch of people then do yourself a favor and try to be there on the 9th. You can look around our web site for information to print out a discount coupon towards admission. On the TCN page.) Dress your finest ladies. You know nobody parties like a group of crossdressers.

I also want to say that I was glad to see two new F-M crossdressers at our meeting. I want all you F-M’s to know that you are always welcome to come and be part of our family. Besides, I just love it when a cute guy flirts with me.

I also noticed that we had about 7 S.O.’s at this month’s meeting. That is just wonderful to see couples trying to work things out and enjoying these special times together. My S.O. made her first appearance and really enjoyed herself. She told me the best thing about our meeting was the people. Everyone was fantastic. She had a fabulous time. So don't be afraid to invite your special someone to join you. They're all welcome too.

Afterwards we hit the usual hangout, "Gators.” It was our 1 year anniversary of our going to Gators. I wasn't even aware of it until my friend Alexa pointed it out to me. My how time flies when you’re having fun. And we did have fun as usual. The staff treats us all so nice that I just know I've got to think of something special to do for them. I'd also like you to know that I wore my real hair again this month and this time in an "up-swept" style. I thought it looked great. I'll scan a picture for this edition and try to talk my editor, Angela, into running it with my column. (wink, Angela) But I guess that sums up this report. And please remember that you are all welcome to come down to our "haven.” You'll always be welcomed and never pressured to do anything but enjoy yourself. (Except you have to tell me I'm beautiful when you come in because I get very bitchy otherwise.) Always give back to our community and never forget those not as lucky as we who get to be ourselves. Enjoy the sweet smells of summer and I'll talk to you all next month. Be happy and be pretty.

Hugs and Kisses,

Roxy Wilson

April Meeting

Hello ladies and welcome to another monthly meeting summary. Well, the weather is starting to change slowly but surely and that's good news. It's so wonderful to say goodbye to this dreadfully long winter weather. But unfortunately for some crossdressers this is a little bit of a problem. You see, during the summer a lot of us out there are unable to shave certain parts of the body due to having to answer too many questions. This is not a problem for everyone but for too many. I for one don't have to worry about that as my crossdressing is quite an open expression in my life. The reason I mention this is because usually the spring and summer months, our meetings get a smaller turnout. This month was the first meeting we had under 80 people. Which is still a very high number, but I was getting so used to have up to 100 people at the meetings that now 75 seems like a small number. But it really is still quite a turnout. And we still managed to sign up 5 new members. First timers numbered about 15 this month. And I think this month we even had about 5 significant others.

Our guest speaker this month was Dr. Matthew Olivo. He's a specialist in dermatology and cosmetic surgery. I found his demonstration very well detailed yet very easy to follow and understand. His friendliness was his best quality. I found the good Dr. to be not just an excellent surgeon but a very nice person and very easy to talk to. He spoke of even small cosmetic precedures like taking away some of that little extra flesh from under your chin that could be done right in his office with no pain and no scarring. If anyone is interested in talking to the Dr. about any kind of surgery please feel free to contact his office and set up an appointment. His number is 609-854-0300. He has several ways to help you decide what would be right for you. Any email for the Dr. can be forwarded to him through me. I'll give my email address at the end of my summary. Just let me know to forward it for you and it'll be my pleasure.

We also had the usual goings on of the new person orientation and also a very sweet woman named Emily who's studying for her Ph.D. in sexual therapy was asking for couples to fill out a questionnaire for her. I took one home with me to see if my on/off significant other might be interested. I'll let you know how that went next month.

Also, one of our very own members, April Love, was offering free sessions of massage therapy. I was too busy as usual to take that golden opportunity, but I wish I would've had the time. I know April personally and know she's very good at what she does. But what can I say? A woman's work is never done and I'm always so busy.

Next month (May) we have a very special guest. Rhonda D. Hoyman. She's the author of her autobiography called "Woman In Me." It's about her transition from male to female. But that is not doing her book any justice. It's a fabulously written book that tells the story of her life and how she overcame all the adversities to triumph and reach her life's goal. She'll be discussing her book and I'm sure she'll bring copies you can buy and have her sign for you. She's been on several television and radio shows talking about her book and I am so excited she's coming. I've already had the pleasure of meeting her and I can tell you she is one of the sweetest, warmest and down to earth people you'll ever meet. So please come to our meeting and meet her.

After the meeting we did our usual thing and went to our "hang-out" Gators. Even Dr. Olivo went with us. You know how it is, nobody parties like a great group of crossdressers. How could he resist? The food is great and the staff treats us fantastic. The music was great as usual. By the way, did I mention I used to be a disco Queen? But as usual our night had to end. But another successful meeting was ours for the night. Please remember you're always welcome to come and check us out. And I'd also like to mention that this month we had 2 female to male crossdressers come to our haven. It made me realize that I sometimes exclude that part of our family. I'm so sorry if I gave that impression. Female to males are more then welcome. Please don't feel that if you're female to male you have no place to go. Our home is always open to you too. I personally made sure that our 2 female to male guests felt like they had a home. By the end of the night one of them came up to me and expressed his feelings about how uncomfortable he felt at first when he saw all the women. But after 3 hours of everyone coming up to him and talking to him and of course me harassing him (LOL) made him realize that he too had found his haven. He said he didn't even leave yet and couldn't' wait for the next meeting.Typical man.(LOL) And his haven was full of gorgeous women. What a lucky guy he was, huh?

So as you can see, there's room for everyone. And remember, you're not alone. We'll all be here waiting for you. You'll never feel alone again. And remember to say hi to me at the front desk and tell me where you heard of us. Please feel free to ask me anything or just to give me a comment you might have. I always will answer you ASAP. Write to me via email. I hope to hear from you soon. Until next month let's enjoy the new life Spring brings to the Earth and I'll talk to you soon.

Hugs and Love,
Roxy Wilson

March Meeting

Hello Ladies!!!!! Welcome to another fine edition of my monthly meeting summary. I seem to say the same thing every month, but we had another jam-packed, fun-filled meeting. We had a very special guest speaker, Dr. Schrang. He's a world renowned surgeon who specializes in SRS. Read all about it HERE.

We had another new record attendance this meeting. We went over 100 people for the first time ever. It was glorious to see so many sisters come out to meet and mingle with each other. We signed up 8 new members, bringing our total to 140 members now. We are truly a growing family. And we still want more !!! So dress your best or don't dress at all, but please come visit us. You'll always be welcome and I'm sure you'll find someone to talk you that knows EXACTLY how you feel. At the very least you'll get to see me at the front desk and I'm always good for some fun and friendly chatter. I'm also gorgeous to look at so at least come and tell me how beautiful I am.

Our Chapter Leader, Vivian Shaw, talked at the announcements about this years Holiday Party. You see, usually we have our party on the 3rd Saturday in December rather then have our meeting. But the place Vivian wanted to get for our party is only open on the fourth Saturday. So she has asked the membership for help in this decision as to still have our monthly meeting and the party the weekend after, or just find a different place and look for the 3rd Saturday. You see, the problem is that we know December is a hectic time of year as it is and that some of the girls have a hard enough time just getting out once a month. So two Saturdays in a row might pose a problem to some. Buuuut... finding a place to have our party is getting hard already because believe it or not it's already getting to be late for booking a Holiday party. So we'll take a vote or something like that to find out what the majority of the membership wants and take it from there. But don't fret girls, we WILL have our party. And we all know how much we all love wearing our party dresses and gowns. As I've said many times, nobody parties quite like a group of crossdressers.

In April our guest speaker is Dr. Matthew Olivo. He will discuss dermatology and cosmetic surgery. I'm certain it will be a dynamite presentation. This month's meeting will be on April 15th. So come one, come all.

As usual please feel free to stop by and say hello. You'll love the transgendered oasis that awaits you at the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of Renaissance. You'll always feel like you found that special place for special people like ourselves. And please remember to say hi to me, Roxy Wilson. I'll be there to greet you at my "Meet and Greet" desk. Tell me where and how you heard of us so we know the best way to reach out to the countless others that suffer and feel all alone. We are not alone, none of us are. We are family. Come be part of our family.

I'll sign off now before my editor, the lovely Angela Gardener, tells me I've gone on too long. But I've got a new e-mail address and I'd love to hear from any of you about anything. Your comments and questions are more then welcome and I always answer everyone. You can write me at RoxyRocky59@cs.com I'll be looking forward to your letters and hopefully see you at a meeting soon. Remember that if you can't dress you're still very welcome to come, even to just check us out and see if we're right for you. Enjoy the warm weather that will be with us soon. Now I can finally take out my open-toed shoes and all my pastel colored clothes. Bye until next month.

Hugs and Kisses,

Roxy Wilson

February Meeting

Hello ladies. Last month the GPC of Renaissance had another excellent meeting. The turnout of existing members was only outdone by the unbelievabley strong turnout of newcomers. We never kept an actually count on how many newcomers come to each meeting, but this had to be an unoffical record. Our program director, Kailin Devlin, informed me that we had 20-25 people at the newcomers meeting. I thought I heard her wrong and asked her to repeat that number. She nodded her head and said, "you heard me right." The room we normally use for the newcomers was overwhelmed! I got up from my Meet and Greet table to get something to drink and they "stole" my chair to accomodate the overflow. I was, to say the least, extremly pleased that we're drawing so many new girls to our meetings. All of the officers from the GPC got together for a little meeting and decided to move the newcomers meeting to the much bigger room where we keep our library. This will provide for much more room, so you girls that haven't come to one of our meetings yet will have plenty of room when you're ready to visit. You just keep coming and we'll find the room for everyone. You're all welcome, always! The total count for the meeting was about 90 people.WOW, what a great turnout. I'm so proud of everyone.

Our big program for the evening was a fantastic lecture by Dr.Bruce Genter, M.D. He is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. His lecture was informative and quite a pleasure to listen to. He discussed forms of plastic surgery, skin rejuvenation and a favorite subject of most transgendered girls, hair removal. He uses the latest in computer imaging to get the best results for all of his patients. I personally spoke to Dr. Genter and found him to be a most personable and informed person. He was the kind of person who after several minutes of conversation made you feel like you've known him forever. That's exactly the kind of person who should be a doctor. He treats all his patients as his friends. His kindness and gentle demeanor was a source of comfort. There were also 3 former patients that came along with the Doctor. The work they had done by Dr. Genter was flawless. I had a chance to speak to them and found them to be gorgeous women whose personalities lit up the room. All 4 were more than willing to talk and answer questions. I found their demonstration and their company very enjoyable and informative. Anyone who wishes to find out more on the services of Dr. Genter can call him for an appointment and free consultation at 215-572-7744. Fax # 215-572-7758. You can also e-mail the good Doctor at BG170@aol.com. Please feel free to call, fax or e-mail any questions or to set up your free consultation.

Next month we'll have another very special guest speaker. He is Dr.Schrang. The Dr. is flying in special for our Renaissance meeting all the way from Wisconsin. He has a subject that is quite interesting to many transgendered folks. He's a reknowned expert in SRS. "Sexual Reasignment Surgery." He'll be talking about all the new techniques available for use and several other topics that I'm sure we'll all find fascinating. I strongly suggest that if you make one meeting this year, this is the one. Dr. Schrang is world reknowned in this field and he is making a special guest appearance for us.

As usual, after the meeting several of us went to Gator's. This month there had to be another 40 to 50 of us there. The DJ was playing GREAT dancing music and as usual the bartenders and staff were wonderful to us. We closed the place again. Like I've said before, nobody knows how to party quite like a group of transgendered individuals.

Well that's all for this month. Thanks to all who told me where they heard of us through my E-mail or coming up to me at my Meet and Greet desk. We're trying to find out the best way to reach out to our sisters out there who might still be feeling lonely or scared. We're here for everyone in many different ways. Please feel free as usual to contact me with any comments or questions at RoxyRocky1129@aol.com. You'll always get a response with a smile.Keep coming to our meetings, bring a friend, tell someone. If you've never been to a meeting, please come check us out. So until next month when hopefully Spring will be here, keep dreaming. Because a Dream is a wish your heart makes. Never lose your dreams!

Hugs and Love

January 2000 Meeting Report

Hello ladies and welcome to the year 2000. We had our first meeting of the new century on January 15th and I couldn't believe the turn out, about 90 people. Our bra-cups were over-flowing. Also our facilities, but it was fantastic to see so many of you ladies out and having a good time. Our membership grew again with the number now at 120 members. This month there were 15 first timers. One thing I forgot to do as our "Meet and Greet" girl was to ask you new comers how you heard of us. We like to know if our website is what's attracting you ladies. So if you can, when you arrive at the meeting try to let me know, in case I forget to ask, how you came to find out about Renaissance.

This month's special guest was a lovely woman from Mary Kay Products. She was fabulous to all our girls. She had plenty of makeup tips and was so friendly and knowledgeable. She made everyone who spoke to her very comfortable. Her name is Michele Guerin. You can call Michele for several needs. Of course the obvious is to order makeup, but our little Mary Kay elf doesn't stop there. Mary Kay is soooo much more than that. They have all kinds of beauty supply products a girl could need, everything from head to toes--including body creams, lotions, perfumes, etc. But our special little elf, Michele, has even more. She's available for you to go to her home for your own "free complimentary" visit. She'll sit down with you for a personal one-on-one session of helping you find anything you might need. She'll match your makeup to your skin tone and help you achieve the look you want. Please call her for any information or to set up your "free complimentary" session. You can call her at 610-565-3565. Please call between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.. Appointments are a must, so please call first.

There was an announcement that a three-day weekend in New Hope,Pa. was available. It'll be on March 24, 25 and 26th. You'll have 3 days and 2 nights at the Best Western Hotel. Transportation and meals to The Cartwheel, a dinner and dance club on the outskirts of New Hope. Local merchants have agreed to open their doors and hearts to us by offering discounts at their stores. Also, two of our own members, the 1999 Princess of the Poconos, Sarah Thomas and the 1997 Princess, Amanda Richards, will be available for all your makeup, makeover and photography needs. They'll be there to help you be your best and believe me, these girls are the best. For prices and more information you can call Kimm Jacoby between 9 A.M. and 9 P.M. at 732-929-3291 or email her at KimmJacoby@hotmail.com.

There was also a mention that December's TCN cover girl, Natasha, was looking into a once a month Renaissance Night at the club "Shampoo" in Philadelphia. It's still in the planning stages and details will follow are soon as some are available. Keep checking here for the latest news on the Shampoo party.

After our meeting we high-heeled our way over to our usual get-together place, Gators. We even broke our record there by having at least 40 girls going down for some after meeting fun. I see some of the girls who used to be shy about going out to a public establishment are starting to show up. There is an inner security in numbers and the more that go, the more that want to go. Girls who told me they could never do that are doing it every month. This is such a strong sign for the advancement of our community.

So again, please feel more than welcome to stop by and visit one of our meetings. Next month's meeting will be on February 19th. Our special guest speaker will be Dr. Bruce Genter from the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Center. Dr. Genter's topic will be "Is Cosmetic Surgery For You?" He'll have information about all of the new and exciting developments in cosmetic surgery, skin care, and hair removal. You'll be able to see dramatic before and after pictures and actually get to speak with patients of Dr. Genter. If you've ever had any questions about plastic surgery this is where you can get some answers. So, come on out and join us. We'll never make you do anything but show up and have a good time. You choose what you want and feel comfortable doing once you get there. You'll always have a friendly smile and sympathetic ear. And I'm good for a little fun as you enter. Your transgender haven is here for you, please stop by.

If you have any comments or questions you can call our chapter or email me. That's all for now.So until next month stay warm, healthy, happy and beautiful.

Hugs and Kisses,

Roxy Wilson

HOLIDAY PARTY REPORT

Hello readers and Merry Christmas to all! I hope the Holidays have been kind to everyone. I hope those of you that attended christmas parties had a great time. I had a fantastic time at the GPC Holiday Dinner and Dance on December 18th. A great time was certainly had by all.

The Party was held at the William Way GLBT Community Center in Philadelphia, PA. The hall was decorated festively by our Chapter leader Vivian Shaw and our Program Director Kailen Devlin. The tables had red and green clothes and matching cloth napkins, and each table was sprayed with little snowmen, snowflakes and Xmas trees. Even I didn`t expect such adorable decorating. We had an expected dinner crowd of about 40 and no one dissappointed. The bartender was a handsome fellow who was gracious enough to do it for free. He did a great job for everyone and was extremly pleasant. The caterers were just fantastic. They treated all of us like ladies and were perfect gentlemen, even going as far as to be very complimentary. I enjoyed them very much.

We started with a small cocktail hour of quiche and crackers which was delicous. Then came the dinner. The dinner was fantastic. It was buffet style but with the caterers there for you to dish it out with a smile and a friendly word. They had cheese tortilinni in a delicous Alfredo sauce. Sesame chicken with white and brown rice. String beans cooked in a white sauce with thin slices of garlic. Cold London Broil was served for us carnivores, and salad was also available.

After dinner is when the fun usually starts and this was true Saturday night. The DJ was great. He had a wonderful mix to keep everyone happy and dancing, even with high heels on! More people arrived for just the dance as the flyers advertised. About 20 more people showed up just because they know that nobody parties quite like a group of crossdressers! We know how to party! Everyone had a blast. There were beautiful gowns and dresses worn, hair and makeup done to the nines. I have to say everyone looked beautiful. We even had our own little Ms. Claus, as Kaelin wore a cute little dark green Ms. Santa outfit that she actually made herself!! She looked so cute! But don`t worry, as you should all know by now, when you have that many cd`s in one room you usually have about 20 cameras, so I`m sure there`ll be plenty of pictures floating around.

But finally it was time to say goodnight. The party had to end about 12:30. As we are all family, a few of us stayed around to help clean up. We said our goodbyes and the party was over. But we all have more great memories of another Renaissance event. We truly are one big happy family and getting bigger with every meeting as word gets around.

Next month our monthly meeting will be back at our regular meeting place as usual. It`ll be on the 3rd Saturday, the 15th. Please feel free to stop on by and visit with our family and see for yourself how Renaissance is the place for you to be YOU! Until next month, have fun being pretty and stay warm.

Hugs and Kisses

HOLIDAY PARTY! DEC. 18!

Put on your party dress! The Renaissance Greater Philadelphia Chapter Holiday Dinner and Dance will take place at The William Way Gay and Lesbian Community Center, 1315 Spruce St., Philadelphia. PA. on December 18th, 1999.

Reservations can be made by e-mail Vivian Shaw or by phone 215-428-0630. Credit Card reservations, phone Angela Gardner at 610-975-9119. Checks should be made payable to "Renaissance" and sent to Vivian Shaw: 306 W. Bridge St., Morrisville, PA 19067. Please include the name you will use at the door to avoid later confusion. If you phone, please leave the name which I should use to return your call if this is a sensitive issue. Any info I compile in this endeavor will be held private with the exception of bank processing (which is probably protected somehow), as necessary. Any reservations placed by e-mail and followed by a check will be confirmed by e-mail when the check is received.

Reservations for the Dinner and Dance are $40 and must be made in advance. I will try to stretch the cut-off date for reservations as long as possible, but I am supposed to have a head count for the caterers by December 14. After the 14th, I may or may not be able to take your reservation. Cocktail/hors d'oeuvres hour begins at 7 PM followed by dinner at 8 PM. Buffet Dinner set to include your choice of London Broil, Sesame Chicken, Cheese Tortellini, Green Salad with Mangos and a Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing and Green Beans Almondine. Hors d' oeuvres and Dessert selections included. (Click here for full menu.)

Dance Only reservations are $8 in advance or at the door but be aware that Dance Only participants may not gain entry until 9:30 PM.

A parking lot is located directly across from the William Way and is reportedly large enough to accommodate us all. This neighborhood, generally speaking, is a very safe one. I would expect that anyone exhibiting proper decorum should experience no difficulties coming or leaving. Those wandering the streets at all hours singing drunken songs and hitting on groups of young ruffians are on their own (not that this is an area where young ruffians hang out.)

Any questions should be directed to Vivian Shaw using the contact information above.

November 1999 Meeting Report

Hello Renaissance web page readers. My name is Roxy Wilson. I'll be hopefully writing you a monthly meeting summary of the goings on at our monthly Ren meetings of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of Renaissance. As long as our beautiful Editor, Angela, likes my work and I don't make her crazy!

Well this was our last regular Ren meeting of the century. (Ed. Note: Roxy, like everyone else in the world, thinks that the century is over at the end of this year. Actually, the century doesn't end until the end of 2000. Go ahead, look it up.) Next month we're having our Holiday Dinner and Dance so there will be no monthly meeting at our usual meeting place. Members, make sure you don't forget that, and anyone who wanted to make a trip down to the GPC for December please make note, there will be no one there, you'll be alone. But you are all invited to come party in the holidays with us. I'm sure if you look around the web site you'll find information on how to attend.

I'm what's called the "Meet and Greet" girl for our Chapter. That means that I'm the first person you'll formally meet as you pass through our doors to your crossdressing haven. My job is to greet old friends and meet new friends. You'll always find me pleasant and glad to meet everyone. All are welcome here. Whether it's your first meeting or your first time out. Even if you find that you can't muster the courage to come dressed as your feminine self or if your life won't allow it, please come to our meeting, again you'll always be welcomed with open arms and without judgment. We'll never ask or make you do anything you're uncomfortable with, but we will be there for you if you need an ear or a shoulder to cry on. But I will say that you'll have plenty of our members eager to make you feel at home and willing to tell you their own stories or to listen to yours. We're here for you, we're all here for each other. We're truly a family. Unconditionally!

But getting back to last month's meeting, it was Vendor Night. This is a night that's always fun. There are people there to serve our community with wares that help us be our best. It also serves as a purpose to bring to those who need things that they might be uncomfortable shopping for outside our safe haven. Because this is my first column I'm not sure I'm allowed to mention the vendors name without authorized permission from my editor, so for now, until I get more familiar with the rules, I'll just stick to what they sold.

There was a person there selling beautiful costume jewelry. She was so wonderful to speak to. She made everyone feel very special. The gentleman helping her was equally as nice. She brought plenty of jewelry that could be purchased right there and also had a wonderful catalog. She also was able to order anything that you wanted but might need in a different size. Everything in her catalog was well priced and good quality. She also offered anyone that wanted to stop by her shop to feel free to do so.

We had a seamstress there. She does all her own work and does it out of her home. Also a very pleasant woman who assured us she could make anything you already had fit you to a tee. She also made clothing from scratch, including the adorable outfit she was wearing.

There was someone selling wigs, I didn't get to attend that table myself, unfortunately, but I heard they also were kind, friendly and very willing to help. I did manage to at least see some of the merchandise she brought and found it all to be a good quality and assortment. I'll go out on a limb here and say I'm sure the prices were also reasonable. I've never seen a vendor come to our meetings with anything but good prices. I wish I would've got there, though, I could always use another wig. I mean, what crossdresser ever has enough wigs, except for our Amanda Richards?

We also had the privilege of having 2 tables that were run by our own members. One was run by our very own Programs Director, Kaelin Devlin. She has a special gift of making her own jewelry. I personally love her jewelry. She does all the work herself, which already makes it special. But it's also very pretty jewelry. It's all beaded jewelry with all different color combinations. Necklaces, bracelets and anklets. As I'm sure most of you know, it's very hard to find any kind of costume jewelry to fit some of us big boned girls. Kaelin has catered her jewelry to sizes a little bigger then the standards used by most of the stores out there. She can also custom make anything you desire in any combination of colors. Her wares are very well priced and good quality. I bought one myself. Nice job Kaelin.

The other Ren table was a team effort run by members Amanda Richards and Sarah Thomas. Sarah's beautiful wife Wendy also was there to help our lovely ladies. They had a very unique product they were selling... their own services. A very personal makeover/photo shoot just for that special pretty girl. I'm happy to say that Sarah and Amanda are personal friends of mine so I'm very familiar with their work. Sarah is a very talented photographer. She is the Photo Editor for our National magazine,Transgender Community News. I've seen her work and it's fantastic. Amanda and Wendy will do the make-up and hair for you and assist with any outfit changing, posing and anything else you or Sarah might need. Wendy has done my makeup in the past through our friendship, and I can tell you first hand she is incredible. She even did my real hair beautifully. I was so impressed that I begged her to do it again for me. I haven't had the chance yet, but I will soon. Do you think she should charge me after this plug? Amanda has helped me many times with my makeup and has become quite the expert with wig designing. She is patient and eager to make your wig fit your face and whatever look you're trying to achieve. She should be good, she brought 6 of her own wigs to our 4 day weekend Paradise at the Poconos. She said if her car was bigger she would've brought more. She's even worse about her clothes! Scary, huh?

We also had a couple of special treats at this months meeting. The reigning "Princess of the Poconos," our very own Sarah Thomas, sang her special song she wrote for and sang at the Poconos for all who couldn't attend taht event, and for those of us that just wanted to hear it again. She even changed into the cute little pink dress she wore specially for her tune, "Crossdressin' Coal Miner's Daughter." She is truly a Princess and was once again a hit.

We also had a birthday celebration! It was for yours truly. My birthday is actually on the 29th of November, but my friends made sure they remembered me. It was my very first Roxy birthday cake. The first time I ever heard "Happy Birthday Dear Roxy" sung to me. I was very touched by such a wonderful gesture of friendship.

I think the biggest news of the meeting was given during the announcement segment , which happens every meeting at 9 PM, by our Chapter leader, Vivian Shaw. She announced what we hope is an annual event at our Chapter, the "Holiday Dinner and Dance." (Ed. Note: This is actually a return to past tradition at GPC. The Holiday party was an annual event for years but recently had become just another meeting with a holiday theme.) It will be held at the William Way GLBT Center in Philadelphia. Again, details will be given somewhere else in our web page. (See above.)

We also had our monthly "New Person Orientation" as we do every month. This is where we recommend all of our first timers to go. But it's never mandatory. It's run by our Program Director, Kaelin Devlin. The purpose of this room is to allow new visitors to become aware of what Renaissance is all about. Kaelin explains who we are and what happens. Then usually one of our senior members will tell their story to break the ice a little. Then all in the room will be asked if they'd like to tell their story. Again, you don't have to, because you'll never be forced to do anything at any of our meetings, but with the kindness and understanding nature of all our experienced members, all the newcomers usually feel at ease and are excited to tell their stories. For some it will be the first time they spoke it aloud. It's usually a great feeling for them.

There's also a room for significant others to get together and discuss their feelings and hear other peoples stories. Again, suggested, not mandatory.

Every month we try to have something different for all to enjoy. But at the very least it's somewhere for those transgendered individuals to go and to be able to feel free and safe, to be able to be true to those feelings that too often have to be hidden and buried. To be among others who enjoy the same feelings and understand the happiness, joy and even the sadness... to be able to laugh, to cry... to never be alone again, that is part of what Renaissance is. So please feel free to come to a meeting. If you need to talk to someone, there are people hear you can call on the phone to talk to. Don't be afraid, you are not alone!

This month we had a fantastic turnout. There was about 80 people there, including about 12 newcomers. The only problem was that as the Meet and Greet girl I was swamped at the front desk. But, that's what I love to see, great membership turnout and many newcomers. Our membership is now up to 110. I've been a member since July '98 and I've seen us get so big in that short time. I'm so happy to see so many of us come forward to be here. To feel free. It's a wonderful feeling.

Well, next month I'll write about our Holiday Dinner and Dance. I hope you enjoy my column every month. Please enjoy your holiday season. Be safe, be happy. May all your wishes and dreams come true.
