DECEMBER 2004 Meeting
Hello
Ladies, Gentlemen and all the faithful members and guests of Renaissance
Greater Philadelphia Chapter. Sorry
I could not be with you for the Holiday Party, but I do hope that everyone
had a good time of sisterhood, and fellowship together. There were 25
in attendance, at Bennigans Restaurant for the Holiday get together,
and as I hear, a good time was had by all. As we start the new year,
we have a program that will be presented by out Outreach Director Ms.
Roz. On the importance of our sisterhood, and outreach to the public,
and various other subjects.
Membership

in the heart of Philadelphia. The group starts to gather about 7:00 PM,

you may E-mail.

November Meeting
Hello to all you lovely ladies of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of Renaissance. The November meeting was nothing short of great. We had in attendance 75 members, and visitors. We were also blessed with seven first timers at out newcomers meeting.
The Election of Officers for the year of 2005 was held, and we have some new Officers, They are as follows.
We have new leadership in place for the chapter, and we can use a few volunteers in some places to help out, so if you can help just a little in any capacity your, efforts will not go unnoticed. Little things like offering to be a BIG SISTER FOR A NIGHT, or help with picking up SOFT DRINKS AND FOOD for a meeting hear and there. Every little bit helps.
We held our Annual Vendor Night, and it was well attended. There was a lot of different items on sale. We had out usual vendors in attendance, and plenty of members selling things they have gathered over the years, and don't wear anymore. I must say some of the things for sale were quite unique, and cannot everywhere be found.
Now girls we have NEWS. Some very good, and some not so good. First off lets have the good news.
Congratulations are in order for Ms. Lynnette Williams and her Mrs. On the arrival of their latest new addition of a son. Way to go dirlfriend and Mrs.
Now for the not so good news. We have lost out very lovely magazine, Transgender Community News. The Staff tried to revive it with a new format last April, and changed it to the Renaissance News, however it just didn't work out, so we have no news publication on a national basis. Where else will I ever read such good information, and a lot of humor along with it. A hearty thank you to al those sisters that worked so hard to publish it. The magazine will be missed, but Im going to try something, to see if we can come up with a way of getting the news out.
Now for coming events:
Greater Philadelphia Chapter Center City group will not meet in December. Meetings will resume the first Thursday in January.
The King of Prussia Group will meet at our meeting place on December 18th around 7p.m. and at 8 p.m. we will leave and celebrate our Holiday Party at Bennigans Restaurant. DUTCH TREAT.
Lehigh Valley Chapter will host a Holiday Party and Dance, on December 11, 2004, at their Meeting Place located at Metropolitan Community Church at 12th street and Vultee Ave. In Allentown, Pa.. Admission will be five dollars. ($5.00)
Please consult the Chapter website for Directions. www.ren.org
On
December 11, 2004, Delaware Chapter of Renaissance will hold its Holiday
Covered Dish Dinner at First Unitarian Church. 730 Halstead Road, Talleyville,
Delaware.
Admission is FREE, and everyone is encouraged to bring a covered dish or some soft drinks for the festivities . The gathering will be from 8 to 11p.m on the regular Meeting night.
Well, ladies, that about sums it up for this month. Just a reminder, if you have any information that would be for the good of this Chapter, or Renaissance in general, please let me know, as information is the life blood of any organization. Suniday55@aol.com At this time, my best wishes that each and every one of you lovelies to have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
Stay Sweet,
and Stay Pretty.

SEPTEMBER 2004 MEETING REPORT
Hello
to all you wonderful, supportive Members, Guests and Friends of the Greater
Philadelphia Chapter of Renaissance.
Our Chapter Leader Ms. Kaelin, and Ms. Roz have asked me to try my hand at writing, so I will do my best to help out the GPC with the meeting reports for the next year. This is my first time writing a Meeting Report, so if it seems a bit different, it is. This is all very new to me, so sit back, look pretty and relax girls, and here we go.
At our September meeting we had 59 members and guests and 9 Newcomers in the group. We also had a Program scheduled, on TG Veterans, which would have been informative for a lot of us, but the presenter couldn't make it to the meeting. Instead we had a sort of general talk session, from what I saw, a group of us were sitting around in the program room talking.
Well, girls the October meeting is soon upon us, and I am hoping to see a good turnout this meeting. It's going to be fun, as it is our Halloween get together. I will be there with my camera, and pen and paper seeing if I can gather something to write about. So if you girls have something for the good of our Chapter please feel free to approach me with it, as information is the life of any organization.
October's meeting is time for the nomination of Leaders for the year 2005, and the Chapter needs some new people to help out. Our faithful leaders have been at it for a long time and deserve a time out so they can enjoy the meetings and socialize, without having to work while doing it.
November will be our annual Vendors Night, as well as our Election, so don't forget your purses and credit cards—cash works well too. If you have anything to sell, bring it with you. I bought a nice pair of heels from a sister last year, and I love them.
December will be our Holiday Party at the meeting site. More on that as we get some information on it.
So Ladies until next time. Stay Sweet, and Stay Pretty,
Hugs,
Ms. Suni Dae
JULY 2004 MEETING REPORT
There has been so much going on with the GPC I almost don't know where to start. At the meeting in July we had our annual barbecue. The Barbecutie Award this year went to Chris Nichols and all her helping hands. A cheeseburger will never be the same again.
Kudos to Kae and Samantha! Both will be resigning in the fall. They've both spent many years volunteering their time and selfless energy in making it all happen. I am pleased with the response of people willing to step up and offer their respective services so the chapter transition will be easy. I myself will remain as the GPC outreach and be available as needed.
The William Way group has now become the largest transgender support group in the city. Thanks to all those who have helped make that happen.
This past year has seen many interesting people walk our halls. There is still more to come. In August our own Michelle Moore will be talking on the history of Renaisance. This will be a great program and everyone should attend. The month of October we have GPC nominations for our November Chapter election.
We will be having a Holiday Party in the third Saturday of December. More info on that will be posted and in my next meeting report.
The chapter has decided to do a newsletter again and we need writers, photographers and people with a few hours to donate each month. Most work can be done at home. My goal is October for our first issue. Let's make this something to be proud of. You can contact me at wwgpc@ren.org.
I don't want to spoil you so I will leave you with this last bit of information. Their will be a Labor Day picnic with the theme "Friends and Family". It is sponsored by several organizations, our Center City Group being one of them. The day is planned to start at 2p.m. and it all wraps up at 8p.m. at Clark Park, 42nd and Baltimore in University City. There's plenty of parking, easy access by public transportion, fun, food, family and friends.

HOLIDAY PARTY
The December 2003 Holiday Party at Taquet in Wayne was well attended and everyone had a lovely time.
Upcoming programs for GPC meeting are as follows:January: Roz Carpenter, Renaissance National Outreach Director will speak about National Outreach.February: Representatives of Action AIDS will speak on AIDS awareness.March: Lady Remington Jewlery, and Cyndi's Slipper Night. Everyone should wear their favorite bedroom slippers. There may be prizes for the best slippers.April: A spring wedding.
NOVEMBER REPORT
Greetings one and all. I will make this brief and right to the point. The November GPC meeting was fabulous. There were so, so many vendors present I ran out of money. I am sure that everyone in attendance will agree that this was one of the best vendor nights in years. The chapter leadership remains the same: Kaelin, Roz and Sam. This is no surprise. We need more volunteers interested in leadership. Let's stay focused people. Kae, Sam and I will not be around forever. We figured, because of the overwhelming response to vendor night ( it was a bit difficult keeping track of the goings on ) that eighty plus gals were in attendance. During the course of the meeting I did a radio talk show. This was well to the benefit of Renaissance and I have been invited back on December 20th to do it again. The show, Gender Talk, airs 8 till 12pm on WHAT 1340 on the AM dial.
Kaelin sat in on the newcomers meeting and was extremely happy to see how the meeting has grown since she facilitated back in the day. This success is credited to the members of the chapter. Old and new all are welcome to a newcomers meeting.
The GPC holiday party will be held on Sunday the 21st because the start of Hanukkah falls on the 20th and we did not want to exclude anyone. The sit down dinner will take place at restaurant Taquet conveniently located at the Wayne Hotel off Route 30, about 3 miles from the Woods. The Ren office will be open for a safe place to change starting around five. Tickets are $57.00 and reservations must be in the mail no later than December 14th.
Mail your confirmation, check or money order to Renaissance c/o William way LGBT community center 1315 Spruce St. Philadelphia, Pa. 19107.
This is the season for giving. Please do not forget Renaissance National on your list. You can send private donations to the Center City office at the above address or directly to the Woods; Renaissance Transgender Assoc., Inc., 987 Old Eagle School Rd., Suite 719, Wayne PA 19087. You can also donate anonymously through The United Way or by credit card. Renaissance offers so much through out the year on an ongoing basis. Let your appreciation be known.
There will be no Center City meeting in January. The first Thursday is New Years Day. The GPC will reopen as usual on the third Saturday. Have a safe holiday season. Please don't forget to bring an unwrapped toy for donation when attending the holiday party. This is a Katie Wannabe sponsored event that went well last year. Let's put it over the top this year

October Meeting News
Boo! October's Greater Philadelphia Chapter Halloween Event drew 55 attendees and 11 newcomers. The newcomer's meeting was abuzz, one of the best ones yet. The Big Sister Program continues to work well. I am pleased with the number of people, other than newcomers, that attended this meeting. Keep up the good work, ladies!
As you all know, last month we had nominations and barring any acts of God, the chapter leadership will remain the same. Kae, Sam, and I have decided one more year. We do, however, ask that anyone interested in becoming part of the chapter leadership, offer their time and services so that they can be groomed for 2005. Cindi Lyndsy has stepped up and offered her assistance as Secretary and will be helping out with coordinating programs. Good job, Cindi!
Halloween costumes were fabulous. Judged by all the newcomers: Liz won first place with her Xera outfit from Planet of the Apes, and that monkey dance of her's; second place went to Kerri, as our cigarette girl; and Guido won third for his boxer shorts, which were revealed behind closed doors.
November's program will be Vendor Night, featuring Lady Remington jewelry, Nilah Custom Clothing, Vicki Easterling, and Rita Fleming from Bare Elegance, with her ensemble of fine wares and Selma Blaker wigs, as well as Kalina Isato, from Awesome Makeovers. Everyone is welcome to bring items of clothing to sell, trade, or show off. You should arrive early to get prime space. Vendor Night is always a success and I suggest that everyone makes it a point to attend.
The Holiday Party will be held on Sunday, December 21st at Restaurant Taquet in the Wayne Hotel off of Lancaster Avenue in Wayne, PA. You can pick up fliers and more information, as well as registration forms, at the Meet 'n' Greet table and the William Way Community Center. The reason for the change from Saturday to Sunday was due to the fact that Chanukah fell on the third Saturday of the month, and we did not want to exclude anyone from our Holiday Party. Samantha did a fine job in all the legwork required to put this event together. Thanks, Sam!
The notice at the beginning of the report that Restaurant Taquet will be closed on the third Saturday will not stop us from going somewhere after November's meeting. I think Bennigan's is a fine replacement and it also gives us an opportunity to spread our wings a little. I am happy to announce that the traffic patterns on U.S. 202 are now complete. So, there are no excuses not to attend. If, for some reason, you do get lost, pick up the cell phone and dial (610) 975-9119, the number for the Ren office, and I will happily guide you in from there.
The Center City group is still going strong. I am looking for more people to attend from the King of Prussia Chapter. We offer a safe environment, a peer-facilitated support group, buffet, and an evening out to either Sisters for kareoke or 12th Air Command for drag. Please join the fun! The Center City Chapter can be reached by phone: (215) 731-0760, or email: wwgpc@ren.org (link).
I am sorry for the brief report, as I have been very busy with a new career, but now I have settled in. So, there are ano more excuses for me being late with this report ever again. Yeah, right!

LUVIES,

The
September meeting drew a very small crowd. Forty some people and only
a handful of newcomers. The program was a Hate Crimes Vigil, also sponsored
by Kate Wannabe. She supports us so let's support her. Visit her web
site at KatieWannabe.com.
Cyndi Lyndsy will now be compiling information for our newsletter. WE are trying to be as efficient as possible. This report will seem shorter than most, due to the fact that I have changed jobs and now work for the William Way Community Center. They have told me that I am the first Transsexual to be on staff and payroll in their history. Imagine that, and a Renaissance girl, too! It is all attitude. We all know I have that. Wish me luck.
Renaissance National has found
a new Executive Director, Kaye Fox. I have met her and found her to
be equally
as
passionate as most who sit on our Board. Let us congratulate her for
her commitment to Renaissance and the Transgender community.
This year there will be alot of significant board changes. I personally would like to thank Diane Hutchinson for her last two years of service to our fine organization. She has set us up and given Renaissance the ability to move in positive directions. Let us give her thanks for her time and selfless effort. THANKS DIANE!
This month being October, naturally our holiday Halloween is coming up. In celebration of this our program this month will be a costume contest. Be hot ladies, be there. Costumes will be judged by our newcomers. So let's make friends fast. Me? I will be wearing my black cat earings given to me by our fabulous Chapter Leader Ms. Kaelin Devlin.
Nominations for the postions
of Chapter Leader, Outreach and Treasurer will be taking place this
next meeting. Please be reminded of the hard work and energy this group,
Kae, Sam and I, have put into this organization. Anyone wishing to
become part of the leadership is welcome. There are certain guidelines
that must be followed. Plus many sleepless nights.
The center city group still holds its own. I would like to see more familiar
faces, but as our mission statement stresses, "All are welcome to a
Renaissance meeting " As you can see there is a lot involved in running
a meeting. All we need is your attendance. Don't forget to renew your membership
and your personal copy of TCN when you register at our meet and greet table.
We have found a new replacement for Gator's. As you all have heard, Gator's
closed without mention earlier last month. I made resevations at Bennigans
in the Kin of Prussia mall for thirty people. Forty some showed up. We were
welcome and they wish our return. We have found a new home away from home
ladies. I had a blast and the service people made quite a few dollars in
tips. WE ARE WELCOME!
Time to let you get on with your lives. There is only one month left for 202 traffic changes. When coming out Rt. 76, pay attention. We are the last exit before the toll. when traveling 202 North from Delaware the Devon Park Drive exit puts you almost literally in our parking lot. Good luck and safe travel. Volunteers for the IFGE Convention are still welcome. There remain various compensation packages. Let me Know.
Till The Next' time,

Greetings!
Another season has passed. Time seems to fly so quickly now. Nine Renaissance
GPC meetings, Halloween, vendor night, a Holiday Party. Then we start all
over again. Wow can you believe Renaissance will be seventeen years old next
year. New faces, friends, acquaintances, people who have walked through our
lives. All sharing a common bond. Let us count our blessings. Ladies, we
all belong to a unique and wonderful organization. I feel proud to work to
continue our efforts in education and support. And am most grateful for the
genuine bonds I have made here.
Fall is here, no white after Labor Day! I am sure we will see a good mix this September.
The August meeting drew the largest crowd all year. Ninety attendees and newcomers too numerous to count. The newcomers meeting was so packed we were stealing chairs as people went to the buffet. A wonderful mix of old faces and new friends. Remember that everyone is welcome to attend a newcomers meeting.
Ellen and a few girls from the LSV chapter were the program for the night. They shared their brand of drag stylings and make up tips to a very energetic crowd.
We celebrated Tina's birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TINA!
In
September we will be back to our regular lunch meat buffet and all the frills
that Kae works so hard on to pull off a Renaissance GPC gathering. The very
hardworking and dear friend to the community Katie Wannabe, will host a candlelight
vigil against hate crimes. Kate will also be sponsoring a fund raiser for
Renaissance National at the William Way LGBT Community center on October
twelfth at the I Am festival following Outfest. Hold on to your garter belts
girls and show us what you got. The event will be called Leggs and everyone
is invited. This really promises to be a great time.
If you missed the August meeting then you missed the announcement that The GPC will act as the host group for the IFGE convention. We are in the process of working out the details as to what our role will be. I can guarantee you compensation for any time you would share with this endeavor. I will write more about the whole deal and give you a little insight to the IFGE in my yearly message from Chapter Outreach next month.
Rumors of a holiday party are looming. Samantha is the planner this year and we'll tell you all about it at the next meeting. There will be a lot going on so you don't want to miss this one.
I have finally cornered Dr. Michelle Angello and we will be doing a phone outreach/peer counselor training. We have a great group of volunteers so you might want to consider joining in. I must stop and say how heartfelt it is to watch the Chapter grow. The big sister program is still working, people really do come together when called upon. We are certainly a great bunch of GALS.
The center city group will meet Thursday September 4th at 7:30 p.m. in the Philadelphia Room at The William Way LGBT Center. We have an office there which can be reached by calling 215-731-0760 and our email is wwgpc@ren.org. This month's program will be me, yeah, me! I'll be talking about outreach. We have a buffet, a safe place to change and a choice between Kareoke at Sisters or drag at 12th Air Command. Please join us. A guaranteed blast.
Gator's is back to normal. This was obvious by the usual fun time and welcomes in August. It is so hard to process the whole evening when working the crowd all night, This girl was feelin' pretty good.
Please check US202.com if not familiar with the construction changes in the King of Prussia area. They shifted a few new ramps again. I have not had the time to explore the area. So please pay attention to road signs and you can always call the GPC meeting site after 5:30 p.m. on the night of a meeting. I will guide you in.
Roz
DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF APRIL LOVE
As
I sit back and reflect on last year's meeting, it was hot, it was July, and
we had over one hundred people. Attendance has been dwindling. This has been
a concern of Kae and mine for the last several months. The July GPC gathering
drew 47 attendees and no newcomers. However, the newcomers meeting was filled
with optimism and fresh ideas, shared by old associates and recent members.
Keeping talking up Renaissance ladies! This is how we survive.
Although the meeting was small, it certainly did not lack luster. Ronda Rhulnick voice therapist gave a very informative as well as hands on program. She left us all feeling confident about ourselves and the way we are perceived as women.
New membership is up but there seems
to be a drop in renewals. Since the year is half over, membership dues have
dropped to a moderately priced $10 fee. While you are at the meet and greet
table, don't forget your subscription to TCN.
Always
a good companion for the time spent between GPC Renaissance meetings. If
you haven't visited the bookstore lately please stop by and check out the
latest editions of various gender related literature and memorabilia. Angela
and Rachel have done a fine job in keeping our bookstore up to date.
Next month's GPC program at The Woods will be Ellen from LSV doing her drag impersonations and at the request of Cyndy Lindsay it has now grown into drag kareoke. There will be CDs of your favorite divas and you're invited to bring your own. So lets have fun in August!
We are now ready to have our fourth
Center City meeting at the William Way Center 1315
Spruce
St. The contact number at William Way Center is 215-731-0760 and can be accessed
by email at wwgpc@ren.org. This month's
program will be Michele O'Brien (Action AIDS) and Maureen from PCHA discussing
HIV awareness and passing out literature and condoms for people considered
a high risk. I have worked hard with these people to formulate a program
specifically designed for transgender people. Since there are few programs
out there of this nature, I strongly urge you to attend this meeting. The
meeting starts 7:30. We do have a buffet and all end up at 12th Air Command
for a drag show featuring some of Philadelphia's hottest queens. The Center
City group offers something for everyone. I'll see you the first Thursday
in August, the 7th.
Gator's has been quite a handful lately! Cover charge, no cover charge, cover charge, no cover charge. I have put my foot down. They are aware of our dissatisfaction at the way we are treated every time they feel as though they need to experiment in gaining new business. I assure you we are still welcome and the fun times will continue. Jackie and I have been in communication and she is very aware of the significance of our attendance on the third Saturday of each month. So don't forget your dancing shoes.
As you all know the traffic nightmare
on Route 202 will be ending in November. There is light at
the end of the tunnel. Coming north on 202, you want to take the Devon Park
exit which brings you practically right into the parking lot of The Woods.
Coming southbound on 202 from 76, it is the last exit before the toll gate
to the turnpike. Please be careful! Please be aware! Before attending a Renaissance
GPC meeting at The Woods it is always wise to check in at US202.com for any unforeseen changes.
In closing, I'd like to inform everyone of the new toll free number 1-866-481-7366 (RENN). When chatting online with friends about Renaissance, please spread the number around. This will help us grow nationally. This does not change our usual 610-975-9119 extension. I have finally found four volunteers to help with the phone lines Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 6-10pm. I am in the process of putting together a training program for anyone interested in helping out as peer counselors and phone volunteers. Kae and I are very happy with the amount of people willing to donate their time to help run a Renaissance GPC meeting.

I warned you girls, the cool weather would not last forever. June was such a powerful month with so much going on at the GPC gathering, that I didn't think the weather was an issue, but it's hot as hell now! Katie Wannabe threw another successful mock baby shower. She collected a trunk load of gifts and over $300 for homeless infants and their mothers. Terri was our expectant mother and judging from the smile on her face she really enjoyed opening the gifts that were donated to this good cause. Katie and her entourage supplied us with delicious snacks, preserves, dips, and various cheeses and bread. This was truly a wonderful time. Glenn won the basket of goodies that was raffled off. Also the proceeds went to benefit the women's shelter as well. As if this were not enough, Katie herself was auctioned off at a very fair price and it seems as though Kimberly was the lucky bidder. Kimberly has the choice of a free makeover or an evening out on the town with Katie herself. This auction collected over $400 which was donated to Renaissance National. Thank you Katie for being such a wonderful friend and ally to the transgender community and Renaissance. We look forward to more of your events in the future.
The June GPC gathering drew fifty-seven attendees and three newcomers. The newcomers meeting seems to have been a very popular spot and is being attended by more of our chapter girls, however attendance seems to be down over last year. Keeping talking up Renaissance ladies! The Big Sister program remains a success. We have seen an overall increase in the return of new attendees. If there is something more you think the chapter can do to keep things more interesting, please use the suggestion box located at the meet and greet table, and while there, sign up for your subscription to TCN! Kae and I are also available for brief chats on suggestions that will further the improvement of the Renaissance Greater Philadelphia Chapter. As I've been saying all along, this is our chapter and we must all do our share.
The July Greater Philadelphia program will be Ronda Rhulnick voice therapist.
The GPC William Way gathering only drew 9 people this past month. I attribute this to the last minute cancellation of Mara Keisling and the overall holiday in general. July's program at the William Way LGBT Community Center will be Action AIDS speaking on HIV and the transgender community. A DON'T miss program. The LGBT community center is located at 1315 Spruce St. and is very safe environment with private places to change if the need arises. Come see the new REN office and offer your suggestions on window dressings, colors, and borders. After the meeting we attend a fabulous drag show which features some of the best queens Philly has to offer. See you in July.
As you may know, every year The Fetishes Boutique sponsors the Libertine Ball and this year is no different. The theme for this year's ball is Mardi Gras and Masquerade. You can find more about the Libertine Ball at the meeting information table. This year's event takes place at Club Shampoo on Saturday, July 26. The Greater Philadelphia Chapter supports the Libertine Ball and has paid for an advertisement in their program. Kae and I will be there and I hope you will too!
The WOW2003 Conference will be taking place August 14th-17th. WOW2003 is a massive gathering of LGBT Christians and allies from the U.S. and Canada. Fifteen-hundred people are expected to attend. For those interested you can find out more information online. Gator's was quite interesting in June. American Bandstand is now supplying a DJ and oldies. Still a great time with your fav gal friends and fabulous drinks served by our bar maid Joy. There is a nominal $3 cover charge but this seems a small price to pay for the fun time we share there. As always my meeting report would not be complete without 202 warnings. When attending a GPC Renaissance meeting at The Woods be sure to follow all the road signs and be careful. The new 202 South exit is where the 202 North exit used to be. If you miss it you will be on your way to the PA Turnpike. It that happens don't try to back up! You can carefully make a U turn before the ticket booths. That's not totally safe but it's safer than backing up. Then take 202 South. All the construction will be done by Thanksgiving so it won't be long till the roads are all clear.
Till the next'

May was quite an unusual
month. It seems that though it is spring winter fashion is still commonplace.
What's a girl to do? Grin and bear it I suppose. The heat is most certainly
coming. Again I find myself apologizing for a late report. I do realize some
of you look forward to it as soon as possible. With the new Center city meeting
a lot goes on at Renaissance HQ. I will strive for a more efficient way to
get the reports posted in a timely manner.
With that out of the way, we drew a crowd of sixty three people at our last King of Prussia meeting and had three newcomers attend. Kudos to Cyndi Lyndsy for her talents as big sister monitor. Great job Cyndi. Our program, private historian and close personal friend of mine, Sue Duffy was phenomenal. Sue has been invited to speak at our center city gathering. I will keep you posted.
Next month, or I should say this month, June that is. It's BABY SHOWER time. Who will be the expectant mother this year? Last year we were able to raise over $400.00 in cash donations and a carload of gifts for homeless infants. Let us see if we can beat that this year girls. It is a Katie Wannabe sponsored program. She will supply us with all the trimmings (including fabulous food) of a wonderful evening. Let's show our support for a great cause. Programs like this are not only fun, they acknowledge transgendered people as a vital part of society. If this were not enough, a raffle? Yes! There will be a raffle to win an evening out with Katie Wannabe. Proceeds of the raffle will benefit Renaissance National. Like the promo says bring your purses ladies, this promises to be fun.
The May William Way gathering was another success. Thirty three people attended, we had pizza, a doctor ( Rob Winn ) spoke about hormones, and it was an evening of drag. Need I say more. Next month Mara Keisling promises to be our program in Center City Philly. This meeting takes place on the first Thursday in July. It falls on the third this month so I hope to see more people since there is no work on Friday. Any infomation you may need about the Center City group can be obtained by emailing me. I will be happy to fill you in. Our after meeting hangout in the suburgs, Gator's, is changing, but they still love us girls. American Bandstand will be holding their event there on Saturday nights. A D.J. and oldies sounds like fun to me. So bring you dancing shoes. There will eventually be a cover, but I worked a deal with Barry and Jackie that this month would be free for Renaissance Gals.
It seems I covered enough to keep you informed as well as invited to attend our Renaissace meetings so all that is left is my usual 202 warning. US202.com and a map from our web site go together like green eggs and ham. Take care Kids

APRIL
"What is this
house he said that I have come to roam?
This is not a house but home" Bob Dylan
Welcome! I was going to start with a short dissertation on the Easter Bunny in history. After a brief chat with our Wiccan legend, Rebbeca Lohr, I will never look at a colored egg the same again and am now back in therapy, suffering severe nightmares.
I must apologize for the lateness
of this report. So much happened in my private life as well as my Ren life.
(They both seem the same these days. Transition will do that to ya.) This
past month took me to Sunday Out, part of Equality Forum (formerly Pride
Fest). I was impressed with the number of girls who came out to share GLBT
pride. Obviously Jennifer Costello's passionate plea was well received. Turn
out was fabulous. This month's report will be short due to the time involved
between posting and printing. Next time you see Angela let her know how much
her hard work is appreciated. She is always so busy with TCN and still finds
the time to post our Chapter's reports. THANKS ANGELA!
The April GPC meeting drew a smaller more intimate crowd than usual, forty seven attendees and one newcomer. I did notice a few girls who have not been around in a while. It's always good to see old friends.
The Center for Cosmetic enhancement will be with us at our May meeting. Due to an unexpected illness they didn't make it last month. My dear friend Sue Duffy will also be our guest speaker. Sue will be talking about transgender history. I have seen her do this before and I guarantee you won't want to miss this program.
Gator's was a bit different this past month. Kae and I spoke to Barry the manager (who knew me as Lou in my "other" years, this was quite a shock!) He still assures us a great time and a safe environment. They have been entertaining a HIP HOP crowd on the weekends, and in my opinion they seemed OK. It did not stop this girl from dancing, We are working out details. We remain optimistic and welcome.
The first William Way gathering was a success. Twenty nine people showed. Girls I tell you, I am impressed! Let's keep the ball rolling. Next month on the first Thursday at the William Way Community Center our program will be Dr. Rob Winn Speaking on PCHA and their role in helping trans people with health care and hormones. He's a wonderful man and a great speaker. Trans health issues are extremely important, no one should miss this.
Mark your calendars on May 24th, the First Annual Transgender Film Festival will take place at the William Way LGBT Community Center from 2pm till 9. There will be food and snacks on hand. The Center City group had a lot to do with this so come out , see a few movies and show your support.
Route 202 is
a mess! Please allow yourself time when traveling to The Woods on the third
Saturday. US202.com is a great guide combined with the map posted on
the GPC website. Remember, everyone is welcome to attend a GPC Renaissance
meeting.

Spring, Rebirth, Renaissance. It is now one year since I have
been writing our meeting reports. Each month has it's own story. Tiny men
in green suits smoking clay pipes, living in grass knolls and clover, in
search of a pot of gold at the end of another rainbow. Did you hear the one
about the lion? Or was it a lamb? March and all it's mid madness, if I am
not mistaken, started with two Roman dudes wearing leaf clusters in their
hair, drawn in white gowns.
Now that a year has passed I have license. I could chew the fat, expound on new vision with determination or simply recycle my words. The potato chip that lost its way finally found a home. I could tell you that our March GPC gathering drew eighty three attendees with seven newcomers. New membership is up from last year; this is good. And I could continue as usual by telling you our big sister program remains a success. How disappointed I was at the Chapter's turnout at the IFGE convention.
Let me express how heartfelt it was to hear from Karen, a new girl to Renaissance. Karen wrote to me and shared how wonderful she felt after her first Ren gathering. This is a testament to our big sister program. Thanks for your email Karen. We are all looking forward to seeing you in April.
I can remind everyone, as I do so often in my newcomers meeting, that Kae, Viv and I are not Renaissance, we are all Renaissance.
Our FtM program in March was the most powerful I have seen to date. James and several members of the We Exist group shared personal stories to an intimate and interested audience. Next month's program is presented by The Center For Cosmetic Enhancement and our vendor Scott McKenna, Avon Guy.

GPC will now hold a second meeting on the first Thursday
of the month. May 1st is the first of our center city gatherings. There will
be a buffet. Our program will be an informal discussion on Renaissance GPC.
This meeting at the William Way LGBT Community Center, 1315 Spruce St. will
start at 7:30 pm. We have to be out by 10:30. Doors open at 7 p.m. See you
there!
Pride Fest will be held on Sunday, May 4th. Point yourself in the direction of 12th and Locust you will find us.
Sunni Dae has volunteered to do some secretarial work for the chapter. She has also volunteered the use of her digital camera and her photography skills to help enhance our meeting reports. As always I'll tell you Tall Tales of Gators as a good spot to rest my tired feet. This month we had by far the largest crowd in a while. I would like to thank our bartender Joy for keeping a smile on her face and our drinks fresh. THANKS JOY!
I sit back each month and read what I write. License, no big deal really. I realize all that needs to be said —Renaissance, a safe place to discover yourself.

February Meeting Report
BRRRR! Extreme winter conditions
kept the Feburary GPC gathering intimate and cozy. 10lbs of lunch meat and
assorted cheeses, various condiments and snacks were consumed by thirty seven
attendees. You do the math. Careful of that waistline ladies spring is coming.
The only thing left for this girl were a few pretzel crumbs in a salt mix
and a potato chip I caught hiding, awkwardly posed between the wall and the
table cloth when cleaning up. This chip was shared between Kae and I as we
were locking the door to the Woods as we have done so many times in the past.
Funny thing about the past. It always brings us to the present. Presently
the chapter needs reVAMPing. Our newsletter needs some work. We need an individual
or group of individuals with an hour or two each month to upgrade and update
event calendars. Promote places to go out and generally stay in touch with
Kae, Viv and I so we can post chapter business and treasury reports. No experience
nesesscary, willing to train, a PC a must.
Kae and I stand in front of the group at the official start of the meeting, 9 p.m. and make announcements to a crowd of people who respond with blank stares. We need to know what you are thinking - use the suggestion box, grab me in the hall ( I love to chat ). Kae has tried to make herself more accessible. Please, communication is essential if we are to grow together as a group.
We are still in the midst of membership renewal season. This cold winter has thinned the crowd out a bit. When you plan to attend your next meeting remember your purse. I also suggest a subscription to TCN as a monthly companion to fill the void between GPC Renaissance meetings.
The IFGE convention is coming to the Philadelphia Airport Hilton March 19th - 22nd. It offers a variety of workshops, lectures and vendors as well as celebratory luncheons and dinners. This should be very educational and fun. If attending please be sure to stop by the REN/TCN table in the vendor area. If you are attending and feel as though you have something to offer, talk to myself or Diane Boykin. We would love to have you on board.
Last May, AHHH May! I passed around a questionnaire purposing a second GPC meeting in another venue on a weeknight. YES! was the overwhelming response. I am proud to announce on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. we will meet at the William Way LGBT Community Center, 1315 Spruce Street in Center City. This is definitely a safe enviorment. There are places to change and afterwards we can hit the clubs.I am thinking of Sisters for kareoke or 12th Air for drag. We will figure that out at the meeting. I will announce the date of the first meeting in March At the K of P meeting.
Our program for the February meeting was cancelled due to the weather. Safeguards and their brand of HIV outreach are being rescheduled.
Naturally US.202.com is a fine resource combined with a map to our meeting site posted at ren.org when driving to a Renaissance GPC meeting. There are also people answering the phones willing to guide you in if you're lost. There are no excuses for not finding us. Six newcomers arrived safely last month and so can you.
Christine and Arishka were our big sisters for the evening helping new people feel comfortable with their first Renaissance experience. For many it is their first time out as well as their first TG support group meeting. I remind you that you don't have to come dressed. Arrive as you are most comfortable. Bring a change of clothing if the need arises. There are places to change.
HELP! We need help. Arriving early? Set up Girls! Staying late? Maids are needed. No formalities required. Cut some veggies, unpackage meat, gather and return tables, rearrange chairs, throw away cups and plates. ALL ARE WELCOME.
Beside the newcomer meeting ( my personal fav ) and the buffet table, Gators was the spot of the evening. Fun, fun stuff always going on.
March's program will be James Halleman our National Vice-Chair and several members of the We-Exsist group, an FtM support group. They will be sharing personal transition stories from " The guys perspective." A much needed program.

January Meeting Report
Hello again! Welcome to Renaissance 2003. Kaelin remains our chapter leader. I moved into the chapter outreach position. Viv still hangs in as our treasurer. Secretarial and programs responsibilities are shared between the three of us.
Seventy seven brave sisters battled a winter chill of arctic proportion to attend the January meeting. Membership renewals are due, so when planning to attend the next gathering remember your purses. Please don't forget about a subscription to TCN (Transgender Community News). Published by Renaissance National, TCN arrives discreetly with the mail and is a great companion through the time between Ren. meetings. All business can be transacted at our meet and greet table or securely online at our website. Renaissance is a non-profit organization, we rely on your membership, donations and subscriptions.
Announcements in January were minimal. Hey, we're just getting started! Our volunteer base it seems has picked up a bit. Please don't let this fool you. We always need help. Your help! The IFGE convention is coming to town March 19th thru the 22nd.
The Renaissance Greater Philadelphia Chapter supports the convention. Volunteers are still needed. I have been informed the chapter will benefit financially based on our staffing and those interested in attending, who have time to offer will be rewarded with registration discounts. See me or contact Diane Boykin. Brochures and registration packets are also available at the information table. It is virtually impossible to write a meeting report without mentioning newcomers. With this months announcement of a " Big Sister " program the newcomers meeting was a buzz. As facilitator of this meeting I would like to thank all who expressed interest. Seeing so many regular Ren. girls mix and mingle and share their experiences with our five new attendees Linda, Susie, Michele, Diane and Debbie ( I hope I didn't miss anyone. You are all welcome ), reminded me why I do what I do. Cyndi and Sonny, our big sister representatives were wonderful hostesses, welcoming and introducing new sisters to new friends. Truly in the spirit of Renaissance. I would would like everyone who attends to feel the magic in helping newcomers feel comfortable with their first GPC Renaissance experience. When asked, please accept. Our goal here is not only new people, but that the program will re-root us as a group of individuals and to why we are all here.
The program for the evening was a movie All Dressed Up And Nowhere To Go. This documentary featured some familiar faces. Angela with dark hair? Go figure!
When traveling in femme it is good to stay informed. US202.com is a great way to do this when attending a Renaissance meeting at The Woods on the third Saturday. The night went quick, as it always does. It seems that we finally get set up, it is time to go home.
Go home, never! Not without stopping at Gator's first. Despite the cold the gathering after the gathering was hot. Was it me, or did The whole meeting just change places? Everyone was there. A fun time to start the new year.
Next months program will be Safeguards. A grassroots HIV outreach organization. Safeguards will be passing out condoms, discussing safe sex and their work with the Transgender community. A don't miss program.

Your Help Needed...questions and answers during meetings, deal with problems, make announcements at 9, and sit in on Renaissance National's bi-monthly board meetings, which are also held at the Woods, usually on a Sunday afternoon. You have to be mature enough to represent Renaissance's ideals and not your own. Remember, we are inclusive of everyone on the transgender spectrum even though inevitably, as individuals we belong to one color or another. This position could be that simple... I was always the shy kid who was petrified to stand in front of the class. Now look. It's not impossible. Going on my 2nd year as Leader. Time flies.
